Draft: Can the Tide do it again?

Even though Alabama has never before come close to having three straight drafts with four first-round selections, Nick Saban has the Crimson Tide poised for the challenge:

  • BTW: This took two-plus days to put together and I kept seeing all the threads on this subject.

I know I'm going to get the question, so I'll just answer it here: I think the guys with the best chance to go in the first round next year, in no specific order, are Jesse Williams, DJ Fluker and Barrett Jones -- although a lot will depend on what happens in the fall.

  • Good stuff. Thanks

  • Great piece Chris! Awesome stuff! Would love to see us have at least 4 first-rounders again next season!
It's all about staying healthy...and playing up to potential!

P.S. I would love for Coach Bryant to be alive to see what Saban is doing here. I would love to hear his thoughts on Coach Saban and his staff! RTR!

  • Good to see a reference to the Big Lead. I'm big fan of McIntyre and the gang there.

I'm glad you included Williams with the best chance. I think he has a chance to become "Dontari Poe", this time next year. I just hope he has a better season than Poe!

I appreciate all of the research in that article.

  • I believe CJ has a strong shot at making the 1st round cut, and I like Lester's chances as well. CJ may be slightly ahead of Lester, but if Lester as the leader of the secondary has a strong season he could pull it off. Lester comes across as an intelligent DB, and seems very articulate during interviews. RTR

  • Once again a great article from you. Time will tell but its a great possibility. It is so great to even be where it is a possibility. RTR!!!

  • Nice piece Chris. Even if we don't get 4 1st rounders again next year(and I am not saying we won't) we know we will be well represented in the draft.

  • Impressive; it is a great feeling to have the best coach & staff in college football!

I figure Dee Milner has to be considered. Especially with the sway towards drafting more and more defensive backs early on.

yep....milliner is fast as hell and physical, with long arms. if he has a great year he should be a top 15 pick

  • Great article, Chris.

Is all this talk about Mathieu going in the first round for realsies? Would he be a starting corner in the NFL, or would he be drafted primarily for the return game and maybe an extra DB in certain packages? He's not big and his coverage skills are far from elite, so I don't get the first round talk. I'm by no means an expert, however, and would appreciate insight.
