Hey, I have a mac as well and have used hotspot shield for many other things but for some reason it wont work for espn3. Every time I go to espn3 with hotspot shield and select a show it brings up a popup window that wants me to identify my internet service provider. When I select charter it won't let me go any further. Is there a way around this? Thanks.

Try a different browser and/or update flash player. I accessed it fine last night from my mac with hotspot enabled. I think I was using Firefox. It was showing me as being located in NY.

  • I had to change my browser to Firefox in order to get it to work, so that probably is the problem. As someone mentioned earlier firstrow sports will probably have a link to the game for those that dont have ESPN3 access. Since I cancelled my DirecTV last summer I use this for most of my sports watching. Have yet to find a game that I wanted to see that wasn't available...and its free.
Just a heads up on FIrstrow .It tends to be littered with adult popups when you first pull it up if that matters to you.

Hotspotshield is available for mac. I a am using IE. I have a Mac as well and it worked fine on that too.

(In my best George Bluth voice) And THAT'S why...you DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. Didn't occur to me to check if it was available for Mac.

It sounds like my initial guess was right on the system internet settings. Still stuck in class and can't verify just yet.

On an unrelated note, as a web developer I would urge you to find a better browser. IE is way behind the curve on HTML5, CSS3, and new JavaScript features. If you're bound and determined, at least make sure you're using 9 and switch to 10 as soon as you can. End speil.

As for the Mac users, are you saying it didn't work with Safari but did when you switched to Firefox? That would be strange since we're talking about Flash. Then again, Flash sucks, so anything's possible.

  • Several people referenced macs. Most newer ones have a mini hdmi out port. If so, get the mini hdmi to hdmi cable and the game will show up on an hdtv if you have one. Probably obvious but just throwing it out there.

  • Okay, I was wrong. It doesn't modify the system proxy settings. It also doesn't create a new network connection. I'm not entirely sure how it works but clearly it's at a very low level. That being said, I had no trouble signing into AT&T and loading an ESPN3 video through the proxy in Qatar, even with Firefox.

For the people on Windows who are having trouble, I've had a lot of success using a program called UltraSurf in the past. It will set up your internet connection options to use your computer as a proxy, so if you use IE or Chrome, you'll be good to go. In Firefox, you'll need to set it to use the system proxy settings (Options > Advanced > Network > Settings... > Use system proxy settings). No clunky install/uninstall procedure - just a simple executable you can delete at any time - and best of all, no ads.

You can also do this yourself using a tunneling program like Tor, but it's extremely complex and technical, and hardly worth it with tools like the aforementioned available.

That port is actually Mini DisplayPort, which is similar to Mini HDMI, but I believe (not sure) also carries analog signals. This is important because there is a Mini HDMI standard but you won't find it on a Mac. There do exist Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that carry digital video and audio and this is easily your best option for an HDTV. If you want it for the game tomorrow, you can drop by your nearest Apple Store and probably find an officially endorsed one to pay out unfortunate orifices for. Otherwise, you can get a much better deal on Amazon.

  • Ya know what really grinds my gears?

ESPN is advertised as "Powered by AT&T". Yet, I cannot watch it on my internet (U-Verse) that is powered by AT&T...

OR, if you have Apple TV at home, like I do, just airplay it to your HDTV. Works like a charm.

Nobody "carries" ESPN3. Charter may have partnered with them to allow you access to ESPN3.com with your Charter login credentials.

For those of us with a login to ESPN3 who live in Alabama or Florida, as you probably know already, the game will be blacked out and thus unavailble on ESPN3.

There is a very easy workaround for this.

Goto http://www.hotspotshield.com/ and download the FREE version. Once installed, close your browser and activate hotspotshield. This will run your IP address through a proxy server typicall in NY or CA. Thus when you log in to ESPN3, their servers see you as a user in one of those states and thus the game will not be blacked out.

Typically after I activate hotspotshield, I go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ to check to see which proxy location I am running though. If it tells you it is a state other than AL or FL, you are good to proceed to ESPN3 and enjoy. If by chance it is AL, FL or somewhere outside of the US, deactivate hotspot shield, re-enable it and check your location again at http://whatismyipaddress.com/.

I am in Mobile, AL and as you can see from the attached picture, once activated, it shows me as being located in San Gabriel, CA (ie. not blacked out).

About as easy as it gets, assuming you already have access to ESPN3 content.

    ENJOY!!!

Didnt know if u could answer but does anyone know if the game can be watched through xbox 360? I have added the espn app but there isn't an app for espn 3. Anyone know if the game can be watched through this app?

I would almost guarantee that http://thefirstrow.eu will have the game. If not, I am sure there will be someone with a link to a stream of the PPV game here on the board Saturday

You are correct. And the link is already up -
