Eddie Jackson vs. Alonzo Lawrence: Compare & Contrast

  • How do these guys compare?

Alonzo Lawrence was an off the radar prospect from Mississippi who was thought to be a juco kid due to grades and suddenly once his grade issues cleared up he exploded into a 5 star CB much like Eddie Jackson did.

He had great size and was an explosive athlete. The recruiting services were extremely high on him and jolted him up the rankings to the #1 DB in the nation.

For those who have insight (Tim, Shane or Lucky) how would you compare these 2 players as it seems they have similar stories and skill sets coming out of HS to Bama. Thanks.

Zo shot up to the #4 ranked CB and a mid/high 4*. So the claims are a little exaggerated. And he didn't lack talent. He lacked discipline and the ability to grasp the defensive system. He was a great HS corner bc he should mirror kids like nobodies business but he had a lot of issues playing disciplined within a defense bc one blown assignment, one person out of place, and the entire scheme goes crashing down. The knuckle head stuff got him the boot.

Jackson seems to understand what playing within a system entails. As a safety you have to play within the system or big plays happen fast! How he grasps the system is yet to be seen. That will determine if he sees the field this year or next. Staff seems confident he would have challenged for 5* status had he hit some summer camps and 7 on 7s (per a previous article) so he undoubtedly has the ability to come in and contribute early.

Rivals actually had him as the #2 corner in the nation.

Very similar athletically. Jackson may be a step faster. Hopefully he's a lot more mature than Lawrence.

  • lets just say there were issues with Alonzo that don't need to be discussed on this board...as athletic as he was he would have never never ....never..... mastered Sabans defensive schemes
