Ellis Johnson wow? Really?? Come on

  • Sounds like he has been processed.

AUBURN FOOTBALL: Ellis Johnson: Auburn High's Reuben Foster was a ‘wild card’ prospect - OANow.com: AU Football

Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson said five-star linebacker Reuben Foster was recruited as a linebacker signing class.

  • What's even more comical is that he said they need 12 safeties on the roster for this Defense. The Barn's worse nightmare is having to play nickel and dime package, now they will be in those packages the entire game, SMH.

  • He did say they were holding a spot for him because he was a great player, don't think he was trying to downplay the kids talents.

  • OMG what a joke.

They already had the 2 linebackers they needed?

And the next paragraph about the alexander twins is a joke too. They never offered his brother until they thought they had a chance with Mackensie. And they dont need corners? Lmao. Mackensie duped them big time.

He was downplaying their need for him. Insinuating they would take him if he wanted to come, but he wasnt a priority since they already had 2 LBs. Typical barn spin.

  • "You need about 12 safeties on the roster."

now we know why they signed those 3 3-star safeties that no one else wanted.

Yeah I see your point. I guess I just don't expect anything else from a coach where he didn't sign. Of course he is going to talk up his guys. I just don't guess I read it as a slight to RF when I looked at it.

  • interesting that the 4-2-5 is good against spread teams and the wing-t. we may not have to throw a single pass in the iron bowl next year except to pad AJ and Cooper's stats.

    bama wins 55-0

    apayne87

  • I didn't read it as a slight either. I think they just looked at RF as a bonus guy, but they had met their needs so he didn't leave them with a hole in their recruiting class in regards to getting the needs met. If they didn't think that highly of him and his talent, they wouldn't have left a spot for him. Sort of like us and Vanderdoes. He wasn't a "need" and him not coming to Bama doesn't hurt our numbers at DL, but he would have been awesome to have.

    dunno260

  • Didn't see any slight, just talking up who they got. Also, notice he never said they got who they wanted, just positions they needed.

Not hard to see they didn't hit a homer with their recruiting and they know it.

  • Ellis Fun facts:

has given up 38 or more points in a game every season he coached as DC since 1995...why is 38 the magically number? Thats giving up 6 scores.
also for fun compared to Saban teams.
that the year Ellis became DC and Saban became HC (Not counting Toledo)
used Joe Kines for 05 and 06

I thought he was a below avg. DC when he was here (just compare him to kines) I think he will do just fine at the barn. I think he is just finishing up to get his retirement.

  • Some of you are taking that article a lot different than I am. I thought it was a huge compliment to Foster. They were holding a spot for him because he is a great talent, despite the fact that they had already filled the 2 scholarships slots at linebacker. Auburn puts out a lot of garbage stories to keep up appearances, but this is not one of them.

    hawkinsjr

  • well, with that defense we want ever have to worry about losing to them. you cant beat a power run team in the 4-2-5

Every time Im in Tuscaloosa, Im reminded of what a gorgeous campus Alabama has. It truly looks like a postcard Chris Low

    kmurphy75

  • When they went to a 4-2-5 my first thought was honestly they had given up on getting LBs from this state. They know where the best LBs go...

  • Ellis Johnson is an excellent coach when he has talent to work with. Now he's at AU where he has 6 safeties...none of which could start for any other team in the SEC.

    pearljammer

  • After Jake Holland announced that he was forgoing the NFL draft and returning to Auburn for his senior season, it's pretty much a given that they will be loaded at the linebacker position in 2013. Thank god they allowed us to have Reuben Foster.

I have to respectfully disagree. This is definitely one of them. Not saying he was dissing RF, but saying this was a garbage story to keep up appearances. They had the worst lbs in the SEC and they only got two 3 stars (1 being a Juco). However, the 5 star from across the street was not a priority? Please. Only 1 qb can play but they took twice as many of those as they "needed". We got 3.

Plus, the 5 star corner that duped them was all of a sudden not as important as his 3 star brother that got a scholly offer because of his 5 star brother.

I know stars aren't everything but when half of 5 stars are 1st round draft picks, they definitely mean something and can be game changers.
