Ellis Johnson wow? Really?? Come on

interesting that the 4-2-5 is good against spread teams and the wing-t. we may not have to throw a single pass in the iron bowl next year except to pad AJ and Cooper's stats.

    bama wins 55-0

Its only good against the spread teams if the defense has "spead" and we all know that AU does not have speed at the safety position. They are going to get destroyed by spread and power teams because their spread eagle defense will not win anything for them.

When they went to a 4-2-5 my first thought was honestly they had given up on getting LBs from this state. They know where the best LBs go...

And combine that with their spead offense, because they know where all the best RB's go... I agree with 55-0....

Auburn doesn't have one starting SEC LB on their entire team. They better hope those two they signed start.

This is what I was getting at. Plus, one of them was a Juco transfer. To say that Foster (or another big name lb) wasn't a must get is laughable considering their returning lb core. It's even funnier to say that they only took 2 on purpose. Maybe Ellis is so awesome that he doesn't miss and both of these guys will be 4 year starters. Doubt it though.

I have to respectfully disagree. This is definitely one of them. Not saying he was dissing RF, but saying this was a garbage story to keep up appearances. They had the worst lbs in the SEC and they only got two 3 stars (1 being a Juco). However, the 5 star from across the street was not a priority? Please. Only 1 qb can play but they took twice as many of those as they "needed". We got 3.

Plus, the 5 star corner that duped them was all of a sudden not as important as his 3 star brother that got a scholly offer because of his 5 star brother.

I know stars aren't everything but when half of 5 stars are 1st round draft picks, they definitely mean something and can be game changers.

Where did you read that he was not a priority? Their are certain guys in every recruiting class that have a spot no matter what. Johnson was saying Foster was one of those guys. Vanderdoes and Conner were those guys for us this year. I agree with you that it was a big miss for them. I just think he was addressing the fact that they only took 2 linebackers and the only way they would have taken a 3rd is if it was a "can't miss" guy like Foster.

Johnson implied that losing Foster was no big deal. That's a dmb ass implication. Even if you only play 2 LB's, having a 5 star killer at one of those 2 spots makes a huge difference.

Cassanova is player and will make a huge impact at linebacker for them in the very near future. He's physically very gifted and was popping people by seasons end but was out of position quite a bit which should be expected from a freshman with poor coaching. He grew up in a tough neighborhood and has a mean streak. He plays with a chip on his shoulder.

He tried to make it seem like missing on Foster was no big deal because they already had 2 guys but what if 1 of those 2 is a bust?

Comparing their situation to ours isnt the same. We have studs waiting for their turn to play and not getting a 5 star that was never committed will not affect our situation at this point. They missed on a 5 star that lives in the same city and was committed to them, to their biggest rival who is already stacked at the position, while they are anemic at that position.

He wasn't just a "can't miss" he was a "gotta have".

  • "You need about 12 safeties on the roster." Pretty good barn logic. I guess he watched film for the last 2 years and saw that the safeties were the only guys making any tackles, so get more safeties. Why not play 11 at a time.headslap

Tommy Casanova still has eligibility? He's a safety. Only need 11 more.biggrin

  • There's no doubt its a huge loss for them. We agree on that. I just took it as him trying to justify the number of linebackers they signed, not the level of talent. And I definitely did not see it as an insult to Foster

You are correct with that statement.
That whole article was excuses. They really wanted to Mackenro just as much as they wanted McKensie. Wow
