Five questions from the Awards Show last night ...

  • 1) Who is older -- Justin Blackmon or Roy Kramer?

    2) With respect to Kramer, did your opinion of him change slightly after watching the SEC Storied piece on the '92 SEC Championship Game? I came away liking him better although I have always heard the back stories on the deals in place related to our probation.

    3) How much longer does Lee Corso have as a regular on ESPN? Let me preface by saying that Lee is one of my favorites and always has been. I thought he had taken a step forward earlier in the year, but he seems to be struggling more as the year has went on. God bless him but you wonder how long before ESPN fills his seat.

    4) Did the Big 12 win the award last night for Griffin and potentially the Heisman by manipulating their schedule to add an extra regular season game while everybody else was playing a limited slate last Saturday for Championships? (this also propeled the Oklahoma State push). I think so and I don't like it. I hope the rest of the conferences make some adjustments -- no conference should be allowed to benefit from a stage on the last week of the season simply by eliminating a Championship Game.

    5) How great was it to watch the recognition for our team and players last night? I remember watching these kind of Awards Shows five years ago just wishing we could get a mention at some point during the show or have a clip on the highlight reel. Last night's show was a propaganda film for Alabama and LSU. I will also add how nice it is to know that when a microphone is placed in front of our players or our coaches that they will say the right things and will not embarrass our University. These are special times to be a fan of this program.

  • Unfortunately, Corso's condition appears to be progressive. He'll continue to have good days where he's cognitively functioning at a high level, but I'm afraid the good days will wane.

  • I will miss Corso and all of his antics and F-bombs on live air. Your 4th point has pissed me off more than anything. I give credit to the Big 12 for adding an additional bye week in order for their teams to be able to play in the most influential week by far of the season, but it shouldn't be allowed. A conference should not benefit from having lost teams to other leagues. Everybody can see how great of a scheduling change it was for them: It won one of their players a Heisman, and it nearly got one of their teams into the National Championship game. If they don't have games that last week, neither happens, and its not even close. Also, the Big 12 should not have been able to benefit with the health advantage of two off weeks, and they shouldn't have their regular season games associated with other conference championship games. How many times did you all hear people refer last weekend to the importance of playing championship weekend when talking about Okl-Okl State or Griffin?

    Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.

    It's the last week of the regular season. SEC, Big10, Pac-12 just can't schedule a game that weekend in case they get into the playoff game. The Pac-10 played regular season games that week until this year and nobody complained. Why start now?

    I don't like it, but its not unfair.

    The Big East has always done it. They are the Big East so no one cares, but they have done it for a while now.

    Correct. I meant to imply that they extended their regular season by adding a bye week. I know it has been used in the past, but because of the importance that voters in polls and for awards are giving to late season games and particularly games that last week, I think it should be set aside only for Championship Games to keep all on a level playing field.
