Former Tide runner Kirani James wins Gold medal!!!

Kirani James is going to be running for gold in 5 minutes on the 400 meter. You can watch on firstrowsports.eu. Put your mouse over other and then click other sports.

He ran a 43.94, that is a new personal best for him. He is only 19 so he has HUGE potential.

1st non-American in history to run sub 44.00.
Defending champ, LaShawn Merritt, suffered an injury 2-3 weeks ago and was forced to drop out mid-race in the opening Round a couple of days ago. Merritt was probably the only guy that had a legit chance to beat James.
Congratulations to this young man on a great accomplishment. Running 400m and the 400m hurdles are IMO the most difficult races in track & field.
Tell people what they want to hear, they will like you. Tell them the actual truth...they may not.

I saw LM when he pulled up. It looked as if his muscle tightened up on him and he simply backed down instead of risking further injury. From vids of pro meets, Merritt has been destroying the circuits while boasting an undefeated season. I would have loved to see those two go at it. Oh well

Yea, and he went to every runner as soon as the race was over to shake hands/hug.... Usually, the other runners go to congratulate the winner, if they can find them.. awesome
I still fell the folks of Grenada jumping up and down in that room...

It is the longest of the sprints. Once you get to 800 meters you begin seeing guys back down off of their sprint speed and pace the race out. In the 400, like the 100 and 200, there is no pace. It is simply "run as fast as you can" from the gun until you cross the finish line. As a former 400 runner, who ran distances up to 3 miles competitively, I never hurt after another race quite like I hurt after the 400. Your legs are just complete jelly during that last 50 meters.
Kirani is a special kid who made a huge impression on a lot of folks with what he did with Oscar Pistorious after his semifinal run. Now the gold medal to top it off... and he's just 19. It's great to see a former Bama athlete represent so well.
