Losing Fowler wont hurt us from a running back stand point. It will be a huge loss from his h-back/fullback position. He could have opened some huge holes for Lacy & Yeldon this year. We are going to miss him against LSU & Arkansas and even Texas A&M.

This. He's not just a 3rd string rb.

I am not saying don't bitch, I am bitching too about this. I just think it's silly to blame Saban for this.

I'm just messing with you. Believe me, you and I are on the same page 95% of the time. Totally agree that you can't even remotely try to blame Saban for this. He needed to be and should have been in the game still getting reps.

  • Trying to look on the bright side, he has a red shirt year to rehab.

Still pisses me off. Leg whipped in the 4th quarter against Western Kentucky. Really? I mean could have a miracle but realistically it's very likely an ACL. Sucks ass.

  • It's like this. If we would have dominated today and been up by 40 points he wouldn't have been in the game. But we didn't so he was. Not Sabans fault. The starters needed the practice if you didnt notice. Hard not to notice with six sacks on the day though. But he woulndnt have gotten hurt if AJ doesn't get sacked. But thats what happens when you don't dominate your opponent. Bad things happen.

What blows my mind is that's probably the first time I've seen a running back take a leg whip from that position. What a freaking unbelievably unlucky play for Fowler. I know he's probably thinking the exact same thing.

  • Saban is the best coach in America but I'll be honest in saying I was shocked that AJ and the rest of the starters were still in with 5 minutes to go in the game and up 28-0. I was really worried when they showed the wide shot that it was AJ who was laying on the field injured.

This is a completely different situation but I defended Mike Shula when Prothro got hurt. Looking back, that was a foolish mistake to still have him on the field at that juncture in the game. I am not saying Saban is to blame for Fowler's injury but I don't think it is moronic to question why we needed to have important offensive pieces in the game with that kind of lead late.

Guys like Dee Hart, Blake Sims, and Kenyan Drake are not near as important to the team as Fowler and they obviously could use reps too. I just wonder if the reaction would be any different had it been AJ who was leg-whipped in garbage time instead of Fowler.

It easily could have been AJ.

Good post. You are exactly right. +1

  • Made me sick when he left--he's been my favorite RB so far--now TJ will be if EL doesn't get on track soon

  • I didn't want Aj in but there is no reason to question a 3rd string rb or our fb being in to block. Sucks and unlucky but only people you can blame are the ones not executing

As many others have said, Fowler is more than our third string RB. I'm certain Coach Saban doesn't see it quite like you do.
