The jury returned its verdict after 45 minutes of deliberation.

Disappointing. I really wanted his "Not Guilty by Reason of Munchies" defense to set a new precedent, cause I got my eye on a couple banks.

He chose to play football, worked hard at it and got a scholarship. He earned it!
He chose to be an idiot, worked hard at it and got caught. He earned it!
At one time he belonged at AU, today he belongs in jail. I'd say he got exactly what he "earned".

just to play devil's advocate, i chose to play football, worked hard at it and got offered nothing for it. i wasn't physically gifted enough. he was. none of that was by effort, nor was it earned.
but you're right about the last part, he earned his place in jail by his actions/choice.

See, this is the problem for me with this angle. You unconsciously appraised Goodwins worth to be more than yours based on his natural athletic ability. Sheep do that, which I am not. His "natural" ability doesn't make him more valuable in the game of life and If he can't win there he can't win on the field. I believe most coaches would agree with that statement as well (with the exception of a few like Gene Chizik and Dennis Erickson). Don't sell yourself short.
