All you AG haters need to get a life. You guys just don't get it, what missing with this team is the inside play. If we had J. Green for one more year , this will be a different team.Really i think the man have done a great job for what we have in this very young team. When we play on the road, 85% of the time, we are in the game ,Yall know for a fact we could never win a road game with MG.He have us right there in the hunt for the west title.

Last night was just one of those game, hell auburn didn't score but 13 points in the first half and they was at home.Mal do the hiring and firing and when get ready,he will fire AG ,Really i don't that will happen no time soon. We have two post men that will come in next year.Remember yall deffense wins campionships

I know you're getting slammed over this but I agree with most of what you said. The fact is we can't recruit out of state in b-ball the way we can in football, therefore we rely heavily on in-state talent. This state has produced one big man of note since Grant has been here and that's Jimmie Taylor (not counting Kouassie because we weren't gonna take Morena to get him). Except maybe one or two guys, Grant has been able to keep all the state's best players home. Also, like you said, the core of our team are sophomores.

Personally, unless we just totally bomb it next year I think he deserves two more years. Yes we are bringing in two bigs but we can't expect them to light it up as freshmen. I believe we'll be an improved team next year with Carl back from injury plus the two new post men. And everyone returns except for Steele. I think we'll be a tourney team next year and the following year we could be scary when Randolph, Lacey, Cooper, Carl and Jacobs are seniors.

A lot of the people in this thread have made up their mind that they want Grant gone but I think we need to be patient and give the man a little more time.

  • I believe some of the recruiting complaints are unfounded. Part of what CAG has tried to do was improve the level of recruits we get. That being said, he seems to be going after better talent, which means there is more competition for these players. We have won some but lost the big man battles. Also, basketball players, with AAU, seems to have commitments further in advance than football. Football and basketball recruiting is different. Bama football and basketball recruiting is different. Some who complain about our recruiting are the same ones that screamed Ole Miss was cheating. I believe CAG deserves a little more time. He has improved our talent, and we are playing defense. Something MG never coached. We have a young team, and we are not UK.

This. Great college basketball coaches don't just grow on trees. The offense has been miserable but I maintain that we are in a better position than most teams in the SEC. Downvote me all you want. Changes need to be made but firing him this season or after this season is not the answer.

Agreed. I think he has done a fair job after replacing CMG, but the fact he doesn't cater to the AAU leeches has had an impact. We ain't Duke and didn't have a Duke caliber team when he came aboard. Coach Sanderson will always be one of my favs, but those days are gone.

  • (1) You don't have much of an argument if it's main thesis is "you just don't get it".

    (2) How is it a valid defense of Grant that he needs better big men? It is his freaking roster. If we lack in big men, that is on Grant. Sign better big men then.

    (3) And not many "campionships" are won by a team that's defense is beyond bad. It is 257th in the country. You aren't going to win shit when it is that bad, no matter how good a defense you have.

  • Well, I just voice my opinion and i'am going to stick with it and I'am behind coach AG 100% and i think he has done a good job of replacing the coach we just had in MG. Like i said MAL make the decision and AG not going no where until he say so!!! You guys can GRIPE all you want , but yall can't fire no one.

Listen, as far as signing "BIG MEN" is concerned, there are ONLY so many that are good enough AND most of those DON'T want to come to ALABAMA because the (1) FAN support sucks, (2) facilities are OLD and (3) team is NOT winning or playing exciting basketball.

I love ALABAMA more than anybody BUT, I would NOT allow my potentially NBA-bound son or relative to step foot on the court at Coleman Coliseum wearing a Crimson Tide jersey.

Coach Grant will raise the quality of the basketball program, if he doesn't get fired next season. The question or conundrum is whether or NOT the process will be a steady exciting ascent OR boring, excruciating gradual climb.

Since we know that a new arena will NOT be ready next season and most of the coaches will probably still be around, there are 3 things Coach Grant must perform. Coach Grant MUST

    1) keep his young nucleus engaged and confident in his ability

    2) steady this season AND

    3) develop Jimmie Taylor, Shannon Hale, Carl Engstrom, Moussa Gueye, Nick Jacobs AND Devonta Pollard!!!

We can NOT walk on to the basketball court with ONLY serviceable BIG MEN. Three [3] out of those six players NEED to AFFECT the game in multiple POSITIVE ways.

We can't play the IF game. We have to face what's in front of us.

Mal has screwed up every hire he's made but one. I'm not overly confident.

You need to reword that to "screwed up every BASKETBALL hire." I'm sure that's what you meant though.

But offense puts butts in the seats and our offense should be better with the players that we have.

^^^ This. You need to score. Offense is more important in today's game. It's very rare to find a good defensive player. Nerlens Noel is really the only college player that comes to mind right now.

Think about all of the players in the NBA. Nobody is really known for their defense. The NBA defensive player is literally extinct. Gone are the days that Dikembe Mutombo ruled the world (ha!). The NBA in the late 80s and 90s was filled with a bunch of Bad-A defensive players. The game was way more competitive and intense....and that's why Jordan was so special. Not only could he ball, but he played amazing defense.

I think it's important to talk about the NBA in this situation, because most of the time what happens in the NBA trickles down to college and high school. Defense isn't as important anymore. It's offense. Think about all of these small schools making huge runs in the NCAA tourney. It's not because of their defense. It's because they run 4 guard systems and shoot lights out.

  • Either you are a troll from some other fanbase or you skipped every English class from 2nd grade on. I can't even make it past one sentence of yours without cringing everytime you use a double negative. Your grammar is atrocious and you should probably refrain from typing anything until you take a few English classes at your local community college.

From where, man? He has gotten what the state has provided and since that hasn't been enough he has went elsewhere to get what he can and you guys complain about those players anyway. We had Willie Cauley last year until UK swept in at the last second.

We're not gonna beat the blue bloods for recruits (oh wait, he's even done that by signing Lacey and Pollard) so we are gonna have to take on some lower rated players and *gasp* some projects. But y'all don't want to give them time to get to their third year in the program. Carl was contributing a good bit before he went down. That was a big loss. He was playing a lot better than Moussa is.

I know we can't go head to head with UK, UF, and other big time bball programs.

What I am saying is any complaint about anything on the roster falls on him. This isn't year 2 it is year 4.

And you are telling me he could not have signed at least 1 average big man extra? Because I understand giving time to develop but CE and MG were 4 year projects that don't have a high ceiling. What are they going to develop to? I mean Reggie Rambo had a higher ceiling and his wasn't high. But he played a role.

Nick Jacobs has been disappointing this year but has the tools if he learns some things (finish with his right hand) to develop to a pretty good player. I don't see that for MG and CE.

  • This is by far the worst offensive basketball team I have ever seen, I am not sure I have ever seen a team comparable to this team. Zero offensive flow, zero identity, zero confidence in what they are doing. Bad bad offense, It blows me away, some of these guys came to Bama as scorers but have regressed and lost confidence....1 more year and he will be gone, I just do not think he can develop players offensively.

At Alabama, we need somebody that coaches and builds a exciting brand of basketball that will put butts in seats because it is fun and exciting to watch, we don't need somebody that has his team trying to pitch a shutout. Exciting basketball at Bama will allow a coach to recruit some of the better talent out there, nobody wants to come to Bama and D-Up for 48 minutes while scoring 5.3 points a game!Nobody wants to play this brand of ball, we won't get the Lacey's and such next time around with Grant... Its over, we just waiting till it is really over!

  • I've gone from being a Grant supporter to being squarely on the fence. A great game at Vandy followed up by an utterly crappy game at the barn. IMO, Grant gets one more year to show marked improvement.

And let's be honest about one other thing...Wendell Hudson certainly needs to go first...whether it's back upstairs to a desk, or off to retirement.
