Grant was given a standing ovation tonight.

  • When he came out of the locker room around 5 minutes until tipoff, the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Sorry if already mentioned, but I was impressed with our fans at the game. Grant had to be smiling a bit on the inside when that took place.

We're behind ya Coach, win or lose these next few weeks.

  • It was a classy gesture by the fans, no doubt. Unfortunately, I don't think Coach Grant was able to take it in. He is in the middle of a very rough storm swirling with self doubt. What happens over the next few weeks will have a lasting impact on him and the program. Year three is critical for all athletic programs and coaching plans.

Will it be for better or worse? Time will tell. Coach Grant likely placed high standards/expectations on himself and this team for this season. He trusted players like Green and Mitchell to grow up and it has cost him. To the point that it appears to have negatively impacted Trevor Releford. Was it an accident that Coach Donovan sought out Releford after the game to issue a challenge to him? No. Its safe to assume Coach Donovan was called on by Coach Grant for advice on how to handle this situation. Coach Donovan knows what is at stake and he doesn't want to see his friend fail.

There is huge pressure on Coach Grant to succeed. From himself if not from the administration or the fan base. While I do not view him as a quitter I also do not see him as someone who is willing to accept this as the norm. Something has to give.

I imagine he is alone again tonight with his thoughts. Similar to Saturday night in the locker room alone in Baton Rouge. Thats a tough place to be. Hopefully he gets things turned around. Soon.

  • Hats off to Coach Donovan for reaching out to Releford to gie him some advice. He didn't have to do that at all, and it shows that he has a passion for helping young men be grown men.

  • Classy by the fans...but will it continue if losses pile up?

If REAL fans and SMART supporters / alumni are among the Crimson Tide faithful, they will lift this man and his program to higher heights by showing a grounds swell of support for his decision-making and long-term plans for this basketball program.

We the paying public can make a statement to the rest of the college basketball world. WE, the fans and supporters of the University of Alabama basketball program WANT CAG to build an elite program and WE are willing to lose BIG, by doing things the right way.

Everyone NEEDS to research the history of the Duke University basketball program under Coach K. They were perennial losers and played awful. But, they developed the characteristics that we see today that's winning ALL those games and NCAA Championships and wooing elite level recruits. In a way, WE need to exhibit a level of commitment that the Cow College to the east displays for their football fambeulah sans the delusions of grandeur. Eventually, our hopes and aspirations for our beloved men's basketball program will meet with our collective dreams and become our reality. Then, we will become one the Titans in ALL of sports. The success of our football, men's basketball, women's gymnastics and softball will raise the level of commitment and competitiveness and winning in ALL of our remaining athletic programs!!!

WE CAN DO THIS!!! Do not wilt to the temptation to become a negative force pushing against what is best for Coach Grant and this program. Let's ALL pull, row or push in the same POSITIVELY upward direction.

    Roll Damn Tide!!! rolltideroll

    absolutely excellent post!

you're spot on about the self doubt he must be feeling. major college ball in a major conference is nasty tough, makes you wonder if he still thinks he can get it done!

    Hope for the best!
