Grant's latest action commendable, but...

  • Can't coach stupid. At some point you have to wonder.

  • This post had some insight, you are correct to say other players are watching the actions.... but, obviously the rest comes from a writer and not someone that works with young people. No insult, but just because a coach has been in place doesn't mean student athletes will not make extremely poor decisions. Happens all the time, would we have tore up Bear over the joe namath deal??? you cannot blame the coach for players making poor decisions with poor character, you can blame the coach if it isn't dealt with. Not meant as a real flame, but I recognize this move as one that i want to see happen from my coach, deal with the issue regardless of the win loss consequence and the backlash. Grant has done a great job, and I for one hope he stays as long as he wants

Have worked with young people for 25 years, so your assumption is incorrect. And nowhere in my posts have I blamed Grant for the poor decisions made by the players. As I said in the OP, credit Grant for taking a strong stance. That said, at some point, some people exhaust their chances, no? It's tough to build character team-wide if those who appear to be lacking in that regard remain a part of the equation two or three suspensions later.

And I agree that Grant has and will do a good job. That's what makes situations like this frustrating. Every time it appears as if the program is gaining steam, he's forced to deal with disciplinary issues.
