Grant's ship not sunk, YET!

  • I liked the hire from day one, and envisioned a hard-nosed team that played great defense and hustled beyond the whistle.
In some respects we have seen this happen, we've had some very solid outings, particularly the wins on the road this year. blowing out AU, UGA, and Ga tech on the road. And then we had some notable home games last year that gave us all hope, the Purdue first half, the KY win etc.

But where is the recruiting, the evaluating, the hard-nosed attitudes in year three? Who has CAG been recruiting the past three years that can jump and run and create offense to replace Green and Mitchell? Why are those guys not in the pipeline somewhere? And is he really that bad of a recruiter to where we completely strike out this year? I love Releford, Cooper, and Randolf, (and hopefully Lacy), but where is real difference maker in the paint? Jacobs can play a nice role, but since he can't jump he can't dominate the boards. Is Gueye the answer in Grant's mind? Really??

Hankerson, Eblen, Gueye, Engstrom... great hustle guys all of them, but SEC players?

I'm seriously worried about the next couple of years. It doesn't take this long to turn around a bball program, especially not the second best program in the SEC. This is a pivotal year. We need to make the big dance this year, and feel good going into the off season. Suspensions have taken the pressure off of CAG it seems and I don't think that is a good thing.

  • Agree with pretty much of your post scratching my head over why Eblen and Gueye were offered scholly's I can live with Engstrom and Hankerson. Next year IMO will be another dissapointing season unless we get a Big man in the post Gueye and Engstrom want cut it

  • I like him and hope it works out. It took donovan 3 years to get florida to the tournament and without the suspensions I think we would of made the tourny this year.

Alabama had the #5 recruiting class in the country last year according to Rivals.

Oh, by the way, we also killed bin Laden.

We only have one scholarship available...maybe two if Mitchell doesn't come back.

Also Gueye was rated the number one junior college player in America.

Its not fair to evaluate Gueye this year, considering he tore his ACL this past summer. Guy missed most of his last year in JUCO with an injury so he's hasn't played much ball lately. I'm stunned he is on the court this soon after such a major injury.

I agree with the OP... Glad to see someone step back and look at the big picture... I said something similar the day after the LSU game and got down voted to hell.

With each loss our chances for the tournament dwindle even further and best case we are a low seed one and done team.

I'm worried about next year too... I dont thinh Gueye is our game changing big man that we must have... If we dont pick up a JUCO big man before next year, i dont see our tournament hopes looking great then either.

The other thing that bothers me is I do feel like Grant is getting a free pass for the suspensions, I'm aware he inheirited Green and Mitchell but if he cant mold them he's got to win without them. The way I see it, by the end of next year Grant will have been here for 4 years and still not have a tournament appearence.

Let's be real here....Just think about what this team has gone through in the last week. If Grant looked the other way (like MOST coaches would with a tourney on the line) and didnt suspend Green, we would be on a 5 game winning streak and everyone would be talking about how high we can climb in tourney seeding.

Many are blaming Grant for allowing "chemistry" problems to linger this long, but he got Green's attention last year and Green stepped it up the rest of the season. Green is a senior this year with a potential NBA career on the line, so I'm sure Grant didn't foresee him having issues again....Sometimes there is nothing a coach can do to prevent bad decisions, and unfortunately it happened at the one position where it hurt us the most. Right now, we basically have ONE starter on the floor who played all of last season, and a bunch of freshman who are talented but still learning on the job. It's very tough to watch right now, but Grant deserves more time before everyone starts questioning his ability to coach a contender.

Thank you. Amazed at the flaming on gueye considering whats he's been thru to come back so quick from injury. Guy has had little practice or conditioning since summer
