Gundy Apparently Doesn't Understand BCS

  • After the Okie State/OU, he said the question is whether people "want to see" a 9-6 game or a 39-36 game. Then yesterday, he said that the voters "wanted to see" a rematch and didn't "want to see" the Big 12 champ play the SEC champ. I've got news for you Mike, the purpose of the BCS is not to set up the matchup that people "want to see." The purpose is to put the two best teams in college football in the championship game. Heck, I would enjoy seeing what OSU's supposedly high-octane offense could do against LSU's or Bama's defense, but that is not what the BCS is designed to do. The system got it right by putting the top two teams in the title game.

You are dead on. The problems with college football stem from the media making ridiculous preseason rankings out of nothing. FSU raked in the top 5 with Texas A&M and Miss. ST. based on absolutely no foundation other than "I think they will be good." Then a lower tier team beats them and the whole "we beat top 25 teams" argument comes in.

  • He is beyond delusional if he thinks he could score in the 30's on LSU or Alabama.

I think he's either delusional or else he knew they weren't getting in the title game in any event, so he therefore felt free to talk smack against LSU. You can say you'd score 1,000 on LSU if you're never going to have to back it up on the field.

    He's a man...He's 40!!

"That's what people know us as..ya understand!"

  • Notice that he never said OSU is one of the two best teams. He knows deep down in his heart that his team could not hang with either LSU or Bama.

  • I agree... but I would Love Herbie's scenario... seeded 4 with a plus 1.... I would love to wear OSU out.... then Barry say "that's my offense" and commit to us

I would have loved to see us thrash OSU for the right to play Lsux too. It would not be close and we would not have to hear a bunch of crap for years to come.

As for Gundy, you can't blame him. His team is Sr laden and this was pretty much the only shot OSU has ever had or is likely to ever have again.

As for Barry, I'd love for him to come to Bama but frankly I think he is more suited to their style of offense.

And his defense ain't gonna hold either LSU or Alabama in the 30's either.

  • That also implies he would lose 39-36. Too much hair gel.

    grove009

  • If their offense is so great, why does Bama have a higher average margin of victory in a league that plays much better defense? These "incredible" offenses they run over there are paper tigers that routinely get exposed when they finally meet a defense with a pulse. That is proven year after year after year, and subsequently forgotten before the next season starts.
