Hanks and Maze....

  • ...about what you would think, unofficially, at least, in the 40. Had Hanks running a little better, but second run (4.59) is probably what he is speed-wise. Pegged Maze at 4.47, a great time considering he's coming off the hamstring. Obviously, Hanks will run again at Pro Day and I would think, given his draft status, Maze would, too.

Amazing how much talent Arkansas has had at WR. Three guys -- Adams, Wright and Childs -- ran 4.5 or better unofficially this morning. And Cobi Hamilton will likely be a better pro than them all.

  • Hanks will do himself a lot of good of he can run sub 4.6 on Pro Day

  • What would everyone have said last year if they were told that Julio's 40 time would blow Mazes away? Silly

I never saw reason to discount the many claims that no-one had ever beaten Maze in a race, but honestly I never saw what looked like sub-4.4 speed from Maze just by watching him play on the field in games, especially not this last year where he looked as if he were carrying some bad weight (relative to his 5' 7 7/8" frame). I saw a very good 10- to 15-yard burst, but I never saw "afterburner" speed to make me think he was the fastest guy on our team (which was what was claimed on BOL many times). Maybe at 165-170 lbs Maze has that kind of speed, but he doesn't seem to carry 186 lbs so well. A high 4.4 time was about what I was expecting.

But then again Julio did not look like a sub-4.4 guy to me either (I thought he looked like a 4.5 guy at Alabama, but then again he was injured a lot at Alabama).

Yeah, if he could get in somewhere around 4.55 that would be great. He's a slot, so he doesn't necessarily have to be a 4.4 guy but five-tenth's of a second can make a difference in draft or UDFA options.
