Sophomore receiver Christian Owens of Griffin (Ga.) already is 6-feet-5, 205 pounds, and he said Alabama assistant Kirby Smart already has compared him to another big-bodied pass-catcher.
"He tells me I'm going to be the next Julio Jones … or even better," Owens said.
Jones, now in the NFL, is a former Crimson Tide star. It appears his former team has taken a liking to Owens.
"I've talked to Coach Smart two or three times," Owens said. "He's also been to my school. He told me he wanted to offer me early. I've been to Alabama twice and I've been to Georgia. I'll be going back to Alabama for camp this summer. I think Coach Smart is a pretty good coach -- even though he doesn't coach receivers. He's cool."
Owens doesn't yet hold any offers. Should one eventually come from Alabama, he made it seem as though it would be difficult to pass up.
"I would strongly consider [committing there]," Owens said.
