    God bless man...

You're right, too many people take their skin for granted, and mistreat it EVERY DAY with tanning beds, no sunscreen, overexposure, smoking, etc., without realizing that all of those have the consequences of 1) aging the skin and wrinkling it, 2) causing "liver spots" and other unsightly things to grow, 3) developing non melanoma skin cancers, that can eat away ears, noses, eyes, lips, and otherwise disfiguring someone's "look" (it's amazing how so many want to tan to "look good" and yet the tanning itself causes one to "look HORRIBLE" and potentially get permanently disfigured) that NO plastic surgeon or dermatologic surgeon can fix, and finally 4) cause Melanoma---the "big one"---the one we ALL dread and hope we don't get. Hopefully yours was caught early and was just a wake up call for all of your family and friends and you can live a wonderful life without major issues. Sadly, too many who abuse the sun and tanning bed don't get such a privilege.

It is MASSIVELY important to know that EVERYONE gets a LOT of sun: in your car, walking to the mailbox, going to the neighbors house, GOING TO TAILGATE TO WATCH BAMA BEAT LSU!!!---and that EVERYONE needs sunscreen DAILY. There is NO SUCH THING as "needing sun exposure"---you CANNOT block enough sun with sunscreen to prevent Vitamin D being made, no matter what the media (and mostly the Vitamin D salespeople and drug companies) wants you to believe.

Good luck to you, Tide. Sounds like you had some great doctors and family members that got you fixed up and taken care of. Sorry to derail the thread, but I've seen WAY too much destruction and death due to these things that people ignore, avoid and CONTINUE to do things that cause them, like tanning, overexposing, etc. The sad thing is these are all perfectly preventable for the vast majority, and certainly death is preventable for all of them if caught early (so see your Dermatologist---BOARD CERTIFIED---once a year, at least), and that it is SO ironic that people do so much to do what they "think" "looks good" by getting in the sun and going to the tanning bed, when in the end, IT IS WHAT CAUSES AGING AND WRINKLING!!! It really is sad. As well, people don't realize that caps, hats and tinted windows do VERY LITTLE to actually protect one's skin. As well, it doesn't matter who you are, black, white, purple, or green---YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN, if for no other reason than to make yourself look younger and better as you age, instead of like a piece of overcooked leather.

    +1

People take UV exposure far too lightly, deadly serious business.

Like I said in your first post about this, I lost my father to terminal melanoma at age 46. Sounds like you may have caught yours sooner.

I will continue to pray for you, and please keep us updated on your condition.

Like I said also, my father would've probably survived if not being so stubborn about not taking treatment (until it was too late). I'm glad you're doing all you can to ensure success,

You can make it, no doubt, just keep fighting.

  • We know far more about Melanoma than we want to as we lost our beloved daughter just 3 months ago tomorrow after a 6 yr battle.
My prayers are with you. Keep up with your Doctor visits. UAB has one of the best facilities in the world for this. Our daughter lived in NYC and had treatment at NYU.

God bless you and your family

  • God bless with your rehab. I am finishing my Dermatology residency and have seen too many people suffer from the effects of the sun. Thank you for being an advocate about Sun exposure. I myself regret the abuse I did to my skin but it is never too late to protect yourself.
