  • Travis, I live in Tuscaloosa & cant agree more w/ your thoughts. Witt has continually raised his enrollment "goal" & it now stands at 35K. I feel that anything > 35K & you lose the connection between the city & University. I have heard directly from Witt's mouth him saying he did not want to get like Univ of Texas (he is familiar w/) which had lost the cohesion between city & University.
What scares me is i feel that as long as they can increase tuition while also continuing to attract better & better students they will push until it breaks. Universities are no longer learning institutions but becoming more & more run like big businesses w/ the President the CEO. 60 Minutes actually did a great piece on this a while back regarding the online schools but it seems to me like its permeating all through higher education.
W/ football winning (advertising) like it is I think UofA will continue to push costs & growth but lets just all hope they dont push it over the edge.

  • As long as they continue to improve the academic standards of the university they can grow it as much as they want. Improving the academics just makes my sheepskin worth more so I'm all for it.

  • Referring to the original post...
Milledgeville is an awesome college town. I go to school here and friends come from several different colleges and talk about how much fun they have. There is a lake, 3 to 1 girl to guy ratio, no traffic, 45 minutes from Macon, cheap drinks, and you can walk just about anywhere. Not to mention its the third toughest school in Georgia to get into (behing UGA and GA Tech) so there's not a lot of rif-raf hanging around.
