How do we beat a team that is avg 80 pts/gm?

  • Anyone might say, hold them under 60 points and we can win. I would agree if I thought we could score 61. Our problem is that if we arent getting points off of turnovers, we cant even score 50 points. For us to beat this team, we will have to get 10 points in transition and double their production from the free throw line. All the while not turning the ball over more than 10 times and playing our usual solid defense.

  • Teams struggle against the alabama defense.. So your answer is DEFENSE, we played kentucky really good but just couldn't finish.

  • We have to make shots. Period. When we make shots, our defense gets even better. The flow of the team is more energized therefore their recovery and spacing on the floor is great. It effects every aspect of what we do - possitively. We will play well on D but if we can have one of those rare days when were making shots....I like our chances.

    If were missing, it could get ugly. That's just the truth.

    1 they are like 329th in defense

    2 only 1 team in conference play score over 70 on us and that was Kentucky.

    Creighton hasn't played a defense as good as ours and Creighton hasn't yet tried to stop anyone from scoring.

    Teams in the SEC see our press defense every year. They are somewhat accustomed to it. Teams like Creighton haven't. I feel that we will get more steals and transition buckets. Not too mention that they aren't really a good defensive squad. They have also been averaging those points against weaker competition. Their strength of schedule for both conference & non-conference is like 116th in the country. Now they may still beat us, but I don't think it is as dire a situation as you seem to. ROLL TIDE!

  • Didn't bama play a loyola maramount team in the 90's that averaged over 100 points a game and held them wayyy under? I know we lost and not comparing either of the teams but you cant assume they will score that average or more. Not to mention they aren't defensive juggernauts.

    I think we could have run LMU out of the gym, but Wimp wouldn't let them and we end up losing a heartbreaker 62-60. I wish to this day we could replay that game and just attack them and see what the score would have ended up being. We were also the only team that could have matched up with the extremely talented UNLV team that year. I think Wimp made the wrong call on this occassion.

    Against Creighton, I see us trying to disrupt their offensive flow with our press and our athletic ability will give the Blue Jays a lot of trouble. If we shoot reasonably well (45% to 50% Fg pct.), and make 4 to 6, 3-pointers, I think we can knock them off. RTR!!!

  • Blount, I dont feel this is a "dire" situation at all. We just have to do what I outlined to be in position to win. This team has a lack of leadership that when things go bad for a stretch we cant seem to get over the hump. We would struggle hard to make up lost ground to Florida and just couldnt seem to ever catch up. Since we are short on skill, we need to keep this game close to have a chance but our defense will hopefully keep it that way.

  • Guys, they wont score 80 on Alabama...Just like Oklahoma state wouldnt score 40 on our football team. No one scores like that against Coach Grant
