How many more years does Saban coach??

  • I have a feeling it will be somewhere between 5-7. It would be nice if it was 10 but I dont see him coaching until he is 70. Althought I must admit you couldnt tell he was 60 from looking at him. 50 maybe, but not 60. But 5-7 years is still a long time. Wouldnt it be something if Smart stayed long enough to become the next head coach?? Wishful thinking, but I guess we can all dream.

  • He will absolutely be coaching when he's 70, I see him as a lifer. He will not be happy just sitting at the lake. Football is his oxygen he needs it to live. Im just glad he's here to end his career.

  • he will coach until he no longer enjoys the grind, the long hours, the same sales pitches and decides the feeling of winning no longer covers the cost and payment required. How long will that take? My guess would be 5 years which would have put him at Bama for a decade and established himself as one of the best cfb coaches of all time and most likely the greatest in the modern era. Retire at 65 and then go enjoy life for a while. Thats my guess

  • Saban has proven that he can rebuild a program; he's done it everywhere he's been, only staying for 5 years or less before moving up.

The only thing he hasn't accomplished is to build and maintain a power over a period of years. There's no other college program substantially better than Alabama where he can make that happen. He's aware that he's the best coach in the game today, and I suspect that he wants to be known as deserving to be among the best ever--and to do that he needs to be identified with a powerhouse program. To be considered with Bryant, Paterno, Devaney and Wilkinson he needs to stay at Alabama.

Having stated that he doesn't really enjoy the pro game and won't return to pro ball, I think he'll coach for another 10 years, maybe longer. It'll be at least that long before he's content to sit at the lake and watch the ducks sh!t on the lawn. When active coaching takes too much energy, he'll move on to be analysis and commentary, or like Bryant and Paterno, croak as soon as he gives up coaching.

Kind of ironic, last night I was having a conversation with a boog who asked me the same question. He said no more than four years and that his family "hates Alabama." I proceeded to laugh my ass off. So I asked him where he heard this wonderful piece of information, his answer made complete sense. "I have an Auburn message board account, the bunker" Needless to say, I began to lol lol lol lol

    Carry on, gentlemen!

  • He needs 3 more championships to match Bear Bryant's record of 6 NCs. At this rate he can get there in another 5 years.

  • I think he coaches as long as he still enjoys it. I also think he retires at Alabama, I believe with the relationships Miss Terry and CNS has made at Alabama they are content and this is where he retires. I think it took awhile for CNS to embrace the Alabama tradition but it is in his blood now. There are a few places he could go and do as well, but none where he could do better.

  • This is a nice speculative question to ponder. And really no one knows.  But I think age 70 is doable for CNS at BAMA.  He seems to be at an all time high in terms of passion for what he does, satisfaction from what he is accomplishing on and off the field, and overall contentment. He could even go further if he wanted.

"A man who has been a head coach for two NFL teams and an assistant for four more isn't supposed to end up at a two-year college (Miss. JUCO). It definitely shouldn't happen when he's 70 years old and has been out of coaching since 2001. The last time the world heard of Ray Perkins, he was a volunteer coach at his daughter's junior high school.  But during his time away from the game, his desire to coach lingered." ESPN

"It was always there in the back of my mind," Perkins said. "My passion for football has never been higher...I think if you really have a passion for something, you never lose it." Ray Perkins

  • No one knows the answer to this question. I don't even think Coach Saban would be able to answer this question today nor would he even try. It's not what he is about. TIME isn't a part of the process. The challenges of getting better everyday and attempting to do things perfectly is what the process is. Time puts a limit on this and we all know he isn't about limits.

Realiztically, we all know the clock is ticking. He isn't a young man in the sport anymore. However, we got Coach Saban at just the right time in his life to achieve the greatness he is doing currently. It all came together perfectly for all involved. Also, we all hope that he is in great health and has the passion and drive to coach at this level (which takes so much out of a man) for another 10 years if he wishes. Longer would be just fine by all of us thumbsup
