I don't understand the Michigan bashing on here...

  • Seems like anytime something good is said about their program, we get 20 threads about how bad we're going to destroy them, yada yada yada. I mean, I think we'll have the better team, and think we'll win by at least a few scorres....but that's a class school and program, and if they have confidence in their team, good for them....you guys bashing them is kinda weird, especially considering the way half of this board (myself included) posted about being excited and honored to see our team go up against a classy team/program like JoePa's Penn State...

  • I don't like Meeechigun. shrug That's just me. And I have not said anything negative (excluding this post) about them yet. Just pointing out, history or not history, I am not a UM fan.

I want to pound on anything to do with a Big 10 team. One more example of how big boy football is played in this conference of Champions. rolltideroll

  • Looks like most of the negative threads are started by one or two posters. Just hit ignore and go on. I can't wait till these 2 great football traditions go at it in Dallas. And I do think Michigan will be a player in a few years. Look at their recruiting, stocking up on the big OL and DL's

  • I think there are several reasons for it:
    1) they are the next opponent. Especially as the next opponent we have had about 8 months to diagnose, watch, and wait for to play. Plenty of time to develop a good strong dislike. It will fade in a year or two.
    2) they are a Big10 school. Not a popular thing in the SEC these days. Their commissioner keeps making an ass of himself and I think it's worn thin for a lot of our fans
    3) their fans have been talking' smack. Probably just a few, but it doesn't take many to get us all riled up

Was actually about to answer the OP's question with they are the next opponent and they are Big10/11/12 whatever. Plus it's well documented the B10 is the one league who hates the SEC the mos as Ghost of Bryant alluded to. That's why the "bashing" brother. +1 to Ghost!

  • I've lived in MI for over 30 years now, and have many friends who are alumni of both UM and MSU. I've watched them play many games on TV over the years since we get them on regional games as well as the national ones. That said, I enjoy MSU and their fans way more than UM fans, since they are more realistic about their history versus other conferences like the SEC. UM fans are like OSU fans--they believe other programs are not as good and upright (funny I know) as theirs, or else they must be cheating, which they kind of lump all SEC teams in except Vandy. Of course, they say there are degrees of cfb cheating, and are unanimous that the cow college is one of the very worst in the history of cfb. But, UM is not a fb program to be taken lightly this year or as long as CBH stays. He has them turned around and on the way back to rivaling OSU and WIS and MSU again. I do believe we will crush them this year based on our depth in the trenches and AJ's leadership on offense, and I can't wait to have my UM friends acknowledge our superiority at least on-the-field! RTR!!

This is a lot of it.

For me though, I've never really liked Michigan and their sense of superiority due to having the most wins- despite the fact they only have two national titles.

So I've never really considered them a 'classy program.'

I've lived in the North for the past 35 years. First in Chicago and the last six in SE Michigan about half way between UM and MSU. I just started a new job June 1st. There are about half and half UM and MSU grads at my office. The UM fans can be real a__holes most of the time. I don't have have anything against UM. But, I do not like most of their fans.

  • I know we aren't the same program but since UCLA 2000 I don't take any opener against a top 25 team for granite.

Boom. There are 100 arguments against this, 90 of which include CNS, but I don't care......I'll never overlook a quality program and coach especially with time to prep.

Roll Tide! We will have to hoist a beer on Sep 1st in honor of The Tide!

  • Someone mentioned something similar but I'm prone to talk smack about anyone that's lining up opposite the Tide, doesn't matter if it's the Packers or a a team full of nuns.
