I had us #1 pre-season

  • Right now it's LSU, with a close call between Bama and OU for #2. Boise St. is next, then Stanford. Nobody else is quite on the radar yet. Ohio St. is probably quite a bit better than they show in the rankings and may be next. FSU I think is a pre-season bubble until I see them beat somebody good.

    IMO

That's probably as accurate as any after week one.

  • so LSU is the best because they beat Oregon. Jarrett Lee had 98 yards passing. Oregon had four turnovers. 2 on back to back touches. One fumble on a punt was returned for a TD. LSU's D may be great but they were just bigger than Oregon's D line... Oregon's D front was small looking to me

If we play lsu yesterday they knock one of our qbs out of the game and eventually wear down our stout defense. Our d is going to keep us in every game. But, lsu had every excuse to turn in a poor performance yesterday.

They were missing their starting qb, most explosive offensive player, and their best o-linemen and still took it to Oregon. They are massive in the trenches. Have big physical wr and db's. They are going to be hard to handle this year.

  • This is based on week 1. LSU had the most impressive win over a higher ranked opponent. Don't really see an issue after yesterday.

  • Also the 98yds. passing stat is a moot point. Are u old enough to recall how many Jay Barker had the night Bama beat Miami for the National Title?

Some people choose not to look at things like that. ;) How many yards did we have passing in the NC game against Texas? We must have sucked bad!!

  • The only movement I see is lsu up one and oregon out of top 5. Not going to put boise up for beating the #19 team. Wisconsin deserves to be in the top 5 before Boise, or at least ahead of Boise. I think a few of us need to take a step back a bit regarding our play yesterday. There was lots of movement going on that I am quite sure was planned yesterday in regards to our QBs and Oline. It will settle down much more next week. The defense did just fine. There was a good bit of movement on that side of the ball as well getting our 2 and 3 deep guys game time experience. LSU was not in that type of game, it was 1s all game. Did you see anything any different yesterday with LSU/Oregon than you did with Auburn/Oregon. I do not remember AU having a top defense last year and they handled Pregon pretty well in the title game. Anyway, take a deep breath and lets see what comes out in the wash this weekend. We should see more consistent play and much less mix and match. My hopes are that AJ and Cyrus get the start and finish the game.

    1: ou

    3: lsu

  • Just remember that Oregon sux before you go giving a lot of credit to LSU. Same goes for UGA. They suck. Boise could beat the bottom 6 of the SEC but not the top 5 or 6 in the conference.

Well, Barker did it in Game 13. At this point, LSU's inability to make plays in the passing game qualifies as a legitimate concern for them.

  • AU won 22-19 on a last sec. fg & had the best player in football on both sides of the ball. LSU beat the piss outta Oregon with neither. That's a pretty impressive victory imo. Bottomline LSU is gonna be pretty good as the season moves along imo.

I think pretty much everyone in the entire country thought this was going to be the case before this season ever started, regardless of yesterday's game.

  • LSU's passing game wasn't a huge priority last night. They knew they could run & play good defense & win. & that's exactly what they did.

But, lsu had every excuse to turn in a poor performance yesterday.

...and, critically, they DID. They didn't dominate Oregon; they played great along the defensive front seven, benefited from poor Oregon ball control (true freshman De'Anthony Thomas, forced into service, was responsible for two of the Ducks' fumbles) and decision making (see: Kenjon Banner, fill-in punt returner), and played lousy, erratic offense.

I'm not saying anything about who is better than who right now: I'm merely suggesting that LSU did not look very good yesterday, and Oregon managed to look worse. NEITHER team looked anywhere close to deserving a top 5 ranking; Oregon frankly looked incompetent on their own merits.
