I now dislike Cubs, period

Marmol hit 29 batters from 2009-2011 so almost 10 a season and averaging 75 innings pitch those years. So far he has only pitched 10 2/3 innings. Give him time and he will probably pluck a few.

My point is that whatever he did in previous years doesn't change the fact he has not hit a batter yet this year, yet the Cubs lead MLB in hit batters so far this year. We were talking about this year and what's the only stat the Cubs lead in? You guessed it, hit batsmen. His reason for cubs leading in this category was Marmol, which he laughingly called "Exhibit 1A". Well, he hasn't plunked anyone this year so what's his point? Lol
    This is too easy

  • i just hope that Theo can rebuild us and quick. Im an avid cubs fan and I love the cubs. I still watch the embarassment that they are right now but it is hard. I hate to say it but I am glad to see any life that this team decides to show. It makes for a much better game if we get fired up than just getting our brains kicked in. I played college baseball and the cubs are full of AA and AAA players right now. Its really bad.

  • Okay I will keep it to this season. The other poster stated that the cubs had difficulty with control and consistency and I don't doubt that with their team being under .500. To go along with being number one in hit batter they are number two in walks allowed. The other poster stated that he did not believe that the cubs had the ability to carry out an intentional beaning which is a control problem. As for Marmol, granted he has not hit any batters this season, but it does not mean he has much control or consistency with him having at era of 5 and losing his spot as the closer. Guy has walked more batters than he has struck out. Not exactly a poster child for control.

I will admit and concur that I think it would good for baseball if the Cubs finally get a ring. Why? Because I like the fact that the fans are still passionate even in the face of the 104 year drought. When the Marlins won those 2 WS, it was a joke. Fan base was crap. Cubs used to be the Chicago Orphans just 6 years before their last WS. If that tells you how long its been.

  • Man, I missed a lot during my brief absence from this thread. I think we can all agree that it will be joyous to see the Cubs take the series tonight and to make the trip to see the Cubs/Braves at Wrigley South in July. (g)

    Cubs baseball = Auburn football.

Actually, aside from the perpetual losing, in a very real way Cubs baseball now = Notre Dame football. Just one more reason to hate the Cubs.

One could make the same argument that, even though it hasn't been nearly as long, it would be good for football for Notre Dame to win a national championship.

    No. Hell no.

Once again, getting whipped in this thread must be at your request. As in "thank you sir, may I have another!" Cubs/Braves are already playing this current series at Wrigley. Which means this the only time the Braves will make any trip to Wrigley this season.

    No. Hell no.

A very easy argument IYAM. The 2 dont even compare because whats good for baseball holds a different water bucket than whats good for college football.

So, the Cubs hit one batter, sandwiched between two HBPs by Braves pitchers (one of which nearly hits Reed Johnson in the head), but the Cubs are bush league? I just want to make sure I understand this correctly.

As for Marmol, his display had nothing to do with the Braves. He has been struggling mightily, lost his role as the closer, and has been catching hell from the fans. He was understandably fired up. Apparently emotion should be removed from baseball? Uggla should have turned around and gotten himself ready for the bottom half of the inning. I think he as angry at himself for striking out again, this time to a guy who can barely hit the broad side of a barn right now.

I didn't notice the childish behavior of Jeff S, but I'll take your word for it. I have no idea what you are talking about in regards to Soto after the game. I think sometimes people find things to pick at after suffering defeat, especially to a poor team (as a Cubs fan, I admit they are not good right now nor will they be while they rebuild their system for the next couple of years).

I don't have a dog in this fight but if it were as bad as the OP describes I'd surely have heard about it, read about it, or saw it on ESPN by now.

"Wrigley South in July" probably refers to a Cubs road trip to Hotlanta. I'm just guessing here as I haven't looked at a schedule.

Haha...you look incredibly stupid right now. Sorry but it's true.

As for his comment, the Cubs do bring a lot of fans to Turner Field. However, all they normally do is watch the Braves beat the Cubs. Actually, over the past 20 years the Braves have a better record against the Cubs at Wrigley than they do at Turner. Maybe Wrigley should be called Turner North? Interesting...

See, I disagree completely about Soto. His first gestures appeared to be back at the umpire showing him that he caught the ball. Then, as he was walking to the mound, he was looking back towards the third base dugout. That's the home dugout, and Diaz obviously would have been in the first base dugout after hustling down to first. Soto is a good dude and gained my respect for his no nonsense approach with Zambrano in the past (speaking of bush league).

You guys are much better at interpreting the goings-on without aid of sound or full context of the actions on the field than I am. Who's to say Heyward didn't yell at Samardzija to cause a reaction? I commend him for not trying to get into it with Heyward. There is no need to get in a scuffle there. He would have risked getting pounded, being ejected, being suspended, and would have given the game over to a suspect bullpen.

I too have no issues with any of the batters hit during the game. I just don't understand the bush league tag in some previous posts.

I have no problem with what Soto was saying or doing postgame. It looked to me like he was laughing at Diaz running to first and the fact that the ump blew the call. Not a big deal either way.

I have no problem with Samardzija ignoring Heyward when he was walking to first base. Avoiding the conflict is exactly what he's supposed to do. But I watched the post-inning events several times... Heyward had his back to the third base line and was strolling out toward where the second baseman would normally play (presumably to wait for someone to bring him his hat and glove). Samardzija celebrated getting the final out (which is fine; it was a big point in the game) and then turned over his shoulder and started yelling at Heyward. Heyward looked once over his shoulder to see what was being said and then turned back around toward the outfield. If Samardzija wanted to mouth-off, he should have been a man and done it when the guy was twenty feet from him - not when he was 100 feet away. It was bush league.

He's a talented kid and he's got a chance to be a really good player in the league. But just like Cole Hamels was a complete idiot for running off at the mouth about hitting Bryce Harper, it was stupid for Samardzija for to start something as he was leaving the field. It was just begging for there to be a continuation. And it is likely the reason that the Braves retaliated.

Super burn attempt by He-Hate-Me there. Alas, it ends in fail.

I only called it Wrigley South because I've been to a couple of mid-week games at the Ted where the Cubs fans represented nearly 50% of the fans in the ball park. That shouldn't happen. It had nothing to do with record.

I think what folks may not understand is that I know the Cubs are a bottom dweller. There are rarely any positive stats I can throw out. I'm just having a little fun. Some are being far too serious.

Geez. Again, way too serious Francis.

Good win last night Braves fans. I too would have thrown my glove in the stands like Kerry Wood if I had blown the game. Looking forward to the rubber game today.
