I think Dre K will go down as the best corner we have

  • This is my 50th year following the Tide, and I agree. We have never had a guy on Kirkpatrick's level. I expect him to be a perennial all-pro.

Don McNeal is his best competition. Langham 3rd.

Teague played corner at ua and safety in the league

Teague played safety both at UA and in the NFL.

not even close at the moment. Maybe by the time he leaves... yes, but now, IMO no. At this point he can cover well, not great, but well. He reminds me on D. Sanders back in the day. DS could cover like no one but get him in a sitaution where he has to tackle or put a lick on someone... not so good, kind of frowned on the tackle thing.

Forced 2 fumbles last week? Gained 30 pounds since he arrived.

How many corners played in '92? Tommy Johnson (10) and Antonio Langham (43) were the starting corners. Teague was listed as a corner, but i believe really played safety along with Sam Shade. I could be wrong.

Kevin Donnelly was the starting FS on the 1992 team I believe. I watched the miami game not too long back and I'm pretty sure Donnelly, Shade, Langham, and Teague were the starters.

  • Dre would be hard pressed to make the top 5 if you axe me. The greatest CB ever to play at Bama was Mike Washington. Hands down. Not even close.

Mike Washington (AA at Bama, 28 INT's in his NFL Career)
Bobby Johns (played some S, Two time AA)
    Antonio Langham
    Jeremiah Castille
    Don McNeal

  • You beat me to Mike Washington. Great athlete that started on the freshman basketball team with Charles Cleveland. Another football guy, Ronnie Joe Barnes, was the 6th man on that outstanding team. Back to the OP, Washington, Castille and McNeal were all excellent corners. Tyrone King, Sr. and Bobby Johns should get some mention on this thread, too.

Choose not a life of limitation

    Sir Psycho Bama

  • I had Bobby Johns on my list but my colleague said he played more Safety than CB but I remember my brother telling me he was the best CB he's ever seen.

Mike Washington had a great career at Bama and an even better one in the NFL he had 28 INT's over his career. He was huge for a CB too. Like Dre he was about 6-3 190 or so.

Hard to not include Langham because he put points on the board so often from his position. Some of thos pic 6's were huge. Florida and aubren come to mind.

Castille was pound for pound the most physical of the bunch.

McNeal was rarely tested and when he was he made you pay. Came off his man in 78 Sugar Bowl and set up the Goal Line Stand. Still one of the most heroic plays I've ever seen that's rarely mentioned as such.

Donnelly and Shade were the safeties in '92. Teague and Langham were the corners. The extra defensive backs were Tommy Johnson and Willie Gaston. That was the core of the secondary that year.

Teague was a safety in the NFL, but not at Alabama. When Johnson or Gaston were in, they took a corner spot (just like Marquis Johnson and Dee Milliner) and let Teague shift to the interior, but Teague was a corner at Bama, not a safety.

  • come on man, after one great game. lets talk about this at the end of the year. Dre has the talent and what it takes to be the best ever, but dont be so quick to pull the trigger.

Don't forget about Javier Arenas. Dude received no other major D-1 scholarships and ended up making a number of HUGE defensive plays on the road to a championship season. Also one of the best kick returners in Alabama history and a starting NFL CB.

Make that the second best kick returner in NCAA history.

Thank you, I thought that was how it went as well.

  • Reading CW's Upon Further Review: UNT column made me want to revisit this topic. UNT was 0-1 throwing at DK. That makes the opposition 1-15 on the year throwing at Kirkpatrick.

I'm thinking that maybe all the people who are saying "wait until we see more" might not get a chance to see much more, because nobody is throwing at him. And I'm guessing that opposing offensive staffs have seen enough already. Menzie and Milliner aren't exactly easy targets out there, but they're going to be seeing a lot of balls, I think.
