  • With all the major head coaching vacancies in the SEC, I'm anxious to see who they're gonna get. I hear Arky & TN both want Gruden bad..however, don't know about that...Kirby may be on TN's short list...*sigh*...me thinks Kirby's gone this year...it's gonna be interesting to watch the coaching carousel unfold

TRADITION IS THE FOUNDATION GREAT PROGRAMS ARE BUILT UPON.

  • Well first of all, the NCAA isn't breathing down their necks. That is only if you believe everything you read on a Bama message board.

Auburn has a historically good program. It isn't Vandy or MSU. It has won many SEC titles. It has won a NC in the last 2 years.

I think you are terribly underselling the quality of that job just because it is Auburn.

They should get a good coach. BUT then again they do have a guy that will make that decision (Jacobs) if he isn't fired, who hasn't been very good at picking coaches. It is a quality job even with the 800 LB gorilla across the state. If they were smart they would hire someone like Gus or Charlie Strong or Petrino. Those would all be good hires. Or some hot up and coming OC or DC and hope they are in the mold of Stoops or Kelley.

Many SEC titles??? They have 6 in over 60 years of the league. Georgia Tech has 5 and hasnt been in the SEC in over 50 years.

Butt hurt much, bro? Auburn is a joke. They pay the devil and the price for a good season here and there.

I think the biggest obstacle may be getting somebody to agree to wear that barber's shirt.

Intelligent and mature response. Try dealing with facts. Is it the best job in the SEC? No. Is it still a good job? Yes and the numbers point that out. But again as I said, with Jacobs making the hire they very well could get a sun par coach yet again.

The numbers point out it's a middle of the SEC job. The facts indicate 6 SEC titles in over 60 years of the league and 2 *NCs in 120 year of football does not make it a great job.

  • I would put it top 6 in the SEC, which means it is one of the top 15 or 20 jobs in the nation.

I would put ahead of AU as far as jobs: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, A&M and LSU. You could argue UT is ahead of them, but I would not just because of recruiting base and the really bad mess they have up there right now with so many coaches. But it is a coin flip as far as attractive job with UT, even though UT has had much more historical success then AU.

AU's success is fairly recently (within the last 30 years), which is important to a HC because it shows yes he can win. And btw it is 7 SEC titles.

I am not saying this is the best job in the country. Not saying it is the best job in the SEC. Not saying they are some dominant program. I am saying this is an attractive job to many HCs and certainly not some job that is coaching grave yard like implied by the OP. It can be middle of the pack for the SEC as far as jobs are concerned and still be top 20 as far as overall quality of job.

I could be mistaken, but I think that I read that Hart stated in his PC yesterday that head coaching experience would be a prerequisite for the UT job.
