The "how wrong was it" debate is not even that relevant, IMO. The point is that every bit of it was foreseeable. Foreseeable consequences for both the drunk LSU fan and the drunk tea-bagger mean that neither of them has anyone to blame but himself.

I live in the area, and I'm hardly 100% supportive of the NOPD, but ...as soon as it was all over talk radio and the front page of the New Orleans paper, the chief had no political choice but to say - sure, we're looking for the guy. Call us if you have any info. Might be the right choice, might not be, but it's completely foreseeable. I doubt they ever locate the "victim" and it will be tough to prosecute without him.

For everyone saying "this dude doesn't deserve that' ... maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but again, he took his junk out in front of a crowd on tape and put it on someone else. That's hard-core stupid even if you think it's not sexual assault. It makes me go back to what I heard CNS say about the incident where Rolando beat up the guy over a racial taunt - he said to Rolando, it could have cost you millions to be right. Was it worth it? Same for this guy. Even if it's completely correct that this is an overreaction, disproportionate to the offense, etc. and this should be completely ignored - will it have been worth it to him to be right about that?

EDIT: Not trying to equate putting your stuff on somebody with being racially taunted - just saying sometimes it's irrelevant to the consequences if you're a little wrong or a lot wrong.

i get it. it was wrong, but to insinuate that anything malicious happened is absolutely vindictive on the parts of those wanting to prosecute (more like persecute) him.

Honestly. If I were passed out at a krystal's on bourbon st. and the only thing that happened to me was this. I'd be happy. I'd feel like I deserved it.
