    Seriously Clark?

He switched to a 3-4 and UT insiders are saying the kids haven't bought in to it. Hard to judge a guy off of one year. Especially when there is no talent and a new system.

You can absolutely judge them based on whether or not they have improved from week to week. Tennessee's defense right now is the worst it's been all year. They gave up over 700 yards to Troy last week.

There's no way to sugar coat this: Sunseri has done a terrible job, and he will never be a defensive coordinator again. The only people who think otherwise are our own fans who have some sort of emotional feeling about him because he coached here. As a position coach, he did a good job. As a DC, he has been absolutely horrible.

  • Agree think he would do fine.Especially under Saban he runs the show anyway.

Only change I would make is that as a position coach, he does an INCREDIBLE job. Better than just a "good job."

  • Granted UT's defense has been terrible, you guys haven't learned yet that it really doesn't matter who our coordinators are under Saban? Saban is the head honcho. That is the beauty of Saban's system - we have coaches leave all the time, but it doesn't matter because the system is still the same. I guarantee you Sal as a DC under Saban would do just fine and we wouldn't skip a beat. This is particularly true for the defense, as Saban is in EVERY SINGLE meeting, as KS said before the season.

  • I think Kirby does alot more than many on here think. If he leaves, I think we hire someone from outside to be DC and it won't be Coach Sal.

Or we were just wrong. It's not like that would be anything new.

  • I don't think we need to hire him back as a DC... however, the DC in our system doesn't install "his defense"... meaning, all he has to be is a Playcaller... Honestly, same thing goes for our OC... really just a play caller...

    Major Applewhite begs to differ.

Exactly, he got fired because he didn't abide by the rules. My point is that if the guy is trying to do the job right (which Applewhite wasn't), it will work out for us. I expect Sal to do what he is supposed to and abide by Saban's rules. The system never changes.

  • Sal = great position coach, too much pressure for him to handle being a DC. Sometimes people are just better at smaller tasks, and that's ok. He's gone through it now and UT and despite whatever conditions may be present there, I think it's safe to say that it's become very evident his bread and butter is stick with LB'ers and recruiting. He could probably pull it off at a smaller school being their DC....but in the SEC, no way.

Pruitt is turning into Kirby Smart 2.0. A dominant recruiter and he has studied CNS's defensive philosophies and schemes forwards and backwards. Other staffs in the Southeast (especially schools hiring a new coach) should (and probably will) throw a lot of $$ his way if they are smart and want to run a successful defense in the SEC while being able to recruit the players needed to run it.

  • If KS leaves, from a football coaching perspective, it really doesn't matter who replaces him. That's not taking anything away from Kirby. He's a great coach. But we should all stop pretending that Saban doesn't have his finger on every facet of Bama's defense. It's not like a new DC would bring anything new to the table or chance the current system. So you have to look at it from a recruiting perspective. Who would be the best recruiter in that position and who is most likely to flow with Saban's notorious drive? In that respect, Jeremy or Sal would be fine with Sal having more college experience and a heck of a learning experience from UT. No doubt Sal and CNS remain extremely close and it wouldn't surprise me to see him get a close look if Kirby leaves. I'm not convinced Kirby leaves after this season. I know for a fact that he doesn't have the burning desire to test the HC waters. But we all know that millions of dollars can change minds. Expect him to be in the top 3 of at least two SEC vacancies (UK and UT).

Think Pruitt would get a serious look first.
