CJ also had one of the most crucial pass deflections of the season in the UGA game! He also was usually making tackles behind the line of scrimmage or only for a small gain. I posted this in another thread, but if you watch the USC/ND game Teo is being praised for making tackles after the RB would go for 15 yards down the field. However, a Heisman tackle would have been for him to shoot the gap that was there and make the tackle for little to no gain. If USC can run on ND the way they did, then I see us having no problems. Just my opinion, thanks for gathering those stats OP.

There are two kinds of Heisman winners.

1: A truly stand-out player who completely changed the team's season. The team may have lost some games (or not), but the player was responsible for multiple wins. Examples: Robert Griffin, Cam Newton, Tim Tebow
2: The best player on an undefeated or 1-loss team, probably in the championship game. The team would have fared well without him, but he helped elevate them to the top. Examples: Mark Ingram, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart

If Pitt's kicker connects on that chip-shot FG, among other possibilities, and ND doesn't go 12-0, Te'o isn't in New York. It has much less to do with his season than with ND's; they see him, right or wrong, as the backbone of that team, the best player on that team, and indispensable to that team's success.

I'll leave it as an individual exercise to decide if that's a legitimate reason for him to be there, but I will leave you with a question: if Alabama had beaten LSU last year and people wanted to give Hightower the Heisman, would you have had a problem with it?
