All of this may be true but being overrated like they are, (if they are), and in the ACC could get them 85% of the way to the NCG. Basically I see them as having only 1 game, and if they win that one it's their's to lose. Am I wrong?

ETA- I suppose Florida could be better than I am expecting this year and constitute another 1/2 game for FSU....but I doubt it.

FSU is picked to win the ACC, despite not having won it in the past few years, because they have as much talent as any two teams in their conference, and they finally have a coach who can motivate. It remains to be seen, since this coach is only in his second year, how he'll develop players on a long term basis, but to use the last 5 years when FSU has been down as a model for the near future is to ignore some pretty glaring facts.

They have a new coach.
Their old coach should have retired three years before he did.
In the mid 2000's they blew more talnet than anyone in the modern era (Mark Richt level blown talent).
Right now they have more talent than they have in years and a better reason to think they won't be blowing it.

Everybody likes to dog the ACC, and it is by no means as strong as the SEC- especially the SEC of the last few years, but besides VT and FSU there are upper mediocre teams that are not bad at all. When FSU plays OU and UF OOC, or other big OOC games in addition to UF, you really can't dog their schedule unless you want to sound like a blind "SEC is superior" homer. SOS numbers would prove this to be a fact.

I don't know how they'll be this year. I think the top 5 is a little high. But in 2012 (largely because half of Bama's team will move to the league in Rounds1-2), FSU will have a chance to be preseason favorites to win it all.

huh? No, they have been a national power program whipping the big boys and playing a much tougher regular season schedule than Boise in any case. Seriously, the ACC isn't the SEC but its a far cry from the WAC which is where Boise made their name.

This year? Well, FSU certainly has upgraded the talent but I'm not buying them as a top 5 team yet. Jimbo is not proven as a HC yet and they have't really convinced me they can hang with the top tier teams just yet. They will get their shot early in season when OU visits but they have to prove it on the field for me.
