I think if Hart hadn't been hurt last fall, this move would have happened sooner

    Once again, based on what?

  • He was a true soph and got a pretty good bit of carries. I think if EL were to be unable to play day 1 you would see a lot moreo him than you think.

he's also the kind of size and speed that makes an NFL roster...

  • My problem with this thread is the board's love for Freshmen. Last year all we heard was people talking about how Dee Hart is a phenom and he may pass Lacey for the number 2 role. Now this year, Yeldon is all world, Lacey better watch out (again), Dee Hart (last year's freshmen crush) is going to struggle to find carries, and our logical back up averaging 6.88 yds per carry better just change positions.

  • All I know is the coaches love him at RB, and that was straight from the mouth of a GA...did you ever think he may be practicing with those guys to enhance his blocking/catching abilities thus giving him an expanded role in the offense?

  • Ok...so this is not about a starting RB IMO. This is about getting 2 rb's on the field in variations, I think CNS/CDN have really found something in personnel that most have been thinking for a long time. Why do we go after so many RBs when we are a "featured back" offensive set? Getting 2 rb's on the field at the same time is something most of us have been wanting to see, and I think we will finally get a chance this year.

My problem is people getting their panties in a twist when someone mentions moving a guy who was the 3rd string RB last season to a spot where he could possibly better help the team. A spot that did not have a clear #1 last I heard.

He's just not a tail back. Full back? Absolutely.

Someone should tell the NFL that Jerome Bettis and Brandon Jacobs are also not RB's. Not saying JF is as good a these guys, but has same build

Barring injury we do have a clear number one and two. That came directly from a staff member on the team. I just laugh at the freshmen love on here. I don't have a problem discussing the move, I have had this discussion with several people, but I can't help but shake my head when people base it on people who have never taken a snap and ignore facts.

  • I've been on the record as saying I think Yeldon is & will be at least No.2. So my argument isn't about Fowler being No.2. It's about the guy who said he hasn't made an impact as a rb thus far. The guys role is to come in & close out games in punishing fashion. Which is exactly what he's done. How is that not making an impact?

  • The staff has already mentioned that they would be running some 2 back sets this year. When you think about it, Fowler has never really had to concentrate on anything other than running the ball.

Pass protection was a non-issue because when he was in the game, it was for, uh, "mock up" duty and we weren't going to be passing the ball.

Lead blocking is something he's never had to do either.

He hasn't really shown great hands when he's had the ball thrown to him, dropping a few.

I think this could be a sign of him playing a more significant role in the offense, since Eddie's toe is still a concern, and the only other RB on the roster who has played a down of college football is splitting time at QB.

FWIW, if he performs at the level that the staff believes that he can, I don't see how he isn't by year end.

Careful typing out all that truth... you may hurt your rist. But to his credit, it's clear Fowler is no premadonna.

I agree with you about the board looking for the next great freshman, but you're a little flawed with your logic. First everyone said Hart was going to have a role in the offense last year before he got hurt. If he doesn't blow his knee, he very well might've passed EL...especially considering EL was hurt. I don't think EL loses his starting job this year to Yeldon unless he gets hurt, Yeldon goes off and is too good to bring off the field. TJY is a bit of an anomally though because he's been through a spring and was the MVP...albeit with EL being hurt. JF will have to be a very well rounded back to not get passed by TJY and if Hart can pick up the blitz, then by him too.

    Just my $.02

Thanks for the solid response. The point I was making was that all of that was said based on physical ability and not health issues.

If we say DH wasn't injured with EL performing at the level he did, and more importantly JF performing how he did, I would have been very curious to see how they fit him in. I just don't see how people can say he would have been #2 without even playing a snap which happened a lot.
