That remark, his scuffle w/ Grantham & the character he displays (rather, the lack thereof), will ultimately bite him on the backside.
Having said that, I know one of his players very well, & he can't say enough good things about him.

As a head coach you can't lay out any discriminatory hiring practices without running the risk of a future lawsuit.

I think he got that idea from the movie "Money Ball". There is a scene where scouts are talking about drafting baseball players who have good looking wives or girlfriends as a sign of confidence.

That's really an ingenious way of quickly evaluating a prospective assistant's "recruiting game." I'm not sure I would have made that public but he's definitely right about how that might reliably determine what kind of recruiting charisma a prospective assistant might have. Great insight and just one more thing that impresses me about James Franklin. I don't see him staying at Vandy much longer, hell he might be at Tennessee next year if Dooley's canned.

He is, but he shouldn't be. He didn't do anything wrong, and it's about time Vandy had a really good coach with a great personality. He was just being humorous. It's not like he said something derogatory. If you think about it, no one really believes he didn't hire a great coach b/c his wife was fugly. On the other hand, it could be taken as a great compliment to all his current coaches' wives. Above all, it should be taken as levity.
I really, really, really like Franklin as a coach. I have a gut feeling he's going to be a star.
