Just bought a new house

  • I have already informed the wife of my Bama room. Do you guys know if they still have the Collegiate paint schemes at home depot? If so, have any of you guys ever used them? Would like to know the best interior paint for a Bama room. Thanks guys.

  • I found this information online a while back and made sure I saved it. I am sure any good paint store should be able to make the right colors with these codes

Here are the official Pantone colors for the athletic department...
Dark Red (Crimson) - Pantone 201
    Light Silver - Pantone 428
    Dark Silver - Pantone 430
    Alabama Grey - Pantone 429

  • Thank you Sir.

  • Home Depot has the exact colors through Glidden I believe. Just to let you know, expect to put at least three coats of the pantone 201 (crimson) for it to be the correct shade. It was worth it. I have the best shade of crimson I've seen.

  • I would have them mix the paint for you with their Behr (i think) paint/primer. It will most likely be cheaper than buying the official paint and also better.

  • For a second there I thought this was a prelude to cancelling your BOL accnt.

LOL, that's usually what follows the title. Or it seems that is what we see often. A thread saying payments are too high and priorities blah blah blah. What's more important that being up to date on all things BAMA? bashful

Seriously, congrats OP on the house. And like others have said, you can get the paint from Home Depot but you can also get a very good paint primer in one mixed to the right colors. This usually helps with the number of coats? Either way, can't go wrong with Crimson and a beautiful White trim. Looks incredible....

  • I bought Valspar paint with primer at Lowes and I painted a room red in one coat. I used another brand of the same color in another room and I primed it plus added 4 coats of paint to get the color right. Various shades of red are hard color to cover if you don't get the best paint possible....trust me.

Sherwin Williams has a super paint that is Tuscaloosa Red. It will only take 2 coats and will look great.

Don't know the match for the Behr Premium Ultra but it is the only paint that I would recommend over Sherwin Williams superpaint. You would just have to have them match it for you.

For the record, I just sold a painting company about 1 year ago and we used to go through 200-500 gallons a week. So I've used some paint :).

  • Just remember when buying any paint make sure you buy the paint in plastic paint cans. Look on the bottom and it will say KW Container. Made in Troy, Alabama. ROLL TIDE

Sherwin Williams best paint is what I bought that took 4 coats over primer to cover a light tan wall. I might have had a bad batch but the top of the line Valspar from Lowes blew the Sherwin Williams paint out of the water in my situation. I guess it depends on what you are covering.

All I can tell you is that I have used over 10,000 gallons of that paint (probably more) in my life and haven't had any issues. The top of the line SW is actually a Duration. Not sure if that is what you used or not. It is priced more but I like the Super Paint better.

I have also used nearly every other paint company there is also. Valspar is a decent paint however.

  • Good luck on the Bama room! Have enjoyed many a Saturday afternoon, when I did not attend the games, in mine.

  • Be sure to get an Eggshell or satin base paint (I recommend the eggshell). Lots of people make the mistake of getting a semi-gloss or gloss paint for walls. Paint generally has 6 different grades (Flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, gloss, hi-gloss). Many people see this and get the idea they want to use the gloss paint. The higher the gloss, the harder it is to cover brush strokes, and generally anything above a satin grade is sprayed on or used on trim (crown molding, baseboards, shoe-molding, etc). Walls painted with gloss paint are easily spotted when sunlight hits them just right, you can see nearly every brush/roller stroke on the wall. Do NOT go cheap on the paint brush, especially when using dark colors. Buy a Purdy paint brush, they're about $20, but well worth the money.

I love "purdy" girls but never had a purdy paint brush. shrug

  • In the process of building a house myself and, even though it won't be complete for another 4-5 months, I've been scheming like crazy for my Bama room. I've probably done more thinking about decorating it than the rest of the house combined; pretty much letting my wife handle that part.

Great post above, full of helpful info. He's right about Purdy brushes... These are the best in the business. You don't see a professional painting crew working on a house, inside a building, or anywhere without seeing tons of Purdy brushes.

I went into the Sherwin Williams store and they had a sign that said "We carry Purdy brushes" or something like that. I told the clerk I had never seen a store so proud of their brushes and that they were really nice looking. They all got a laugh out of it.

  • Don't buy the Home Depot official team colors paint. I would get samples of a few shades that seem accurate and try them out in whatever room you want. The lighting/surface makes a difference in color. I wasted money on the home depot paint.
