Just how good can we be?

  • It seems like a recurring question that we've asked ourselves every year since 2009, but assuming the offensive line and secondary come together like we expect them to. Can this be the best Alabama has ever had? The offensive firepower we have at the skill positions is better than we have ever had hands down. The front seven is stacked, and with a little coaching up in the secondary this could be our nastiest defense yet. The only thing I really hope to improve upon is getting after the QB. I think this could be the best team we've seen. What say you?

  • definitely can be the best ever on paper

just need to avoid injuries and have some guys on the OL and secondary step up

  • We will be good enough to beat everyone on our schedule if we have the right mindset in spring, summer, and fall. I would pick the 2011 defense over this one. I do agree that we have more talent at skill positions on offense than I can remember. I know it is a weird way of looking at it but Barrett's stock not being where I expected it to be makes me feel better about the OL.

I agree. If you could put the 2011 defense, 2012 O-line, and 2013 O-skil players together, that team would be unnstoppable.

2011 defense was unbelievable but overall that team's skill position talent dosen't come close to stacking up to the 2013 group so I think it balances out overall. Having an experienced McCarron at QB means a lot as well. It was kind of scary during that year with a new QB under center. Two years ago our defense helped us win a lot of games and it wasn't until late in the year the offense starting to come around. Overall the 2013 team will probably be more balanced. Hopefully the kicking game is better than it was in 2011 though.

Yep, that team would be all-universe.

I have no doubts that this offense has better skill on offense but the defense will simply not be as good as 2011 defense. I think we will finish with top three defense in country (probably 1) but 2011 was nasty.

I'm in complete agreement with you. The point I was making was that the 2013 offense will have more skill position talent than 2011. Yeldon is as good as Richardson IMO and the receivers are much, much better. OJ Howard brings a different dimension to tight end as well. The defense won't have to carry the team as much this year as it did in 2011. Yes the 2011 defense was insane but the offensive skill position talent was not on par with what it will be this year. We're more balanced and explosive offensively right now IMO.

  • IF the Oline handles things we could have the best Offense at Alabama ever. I still put 2011 in front of the defense, but turnover wise i hope we make a jump up. The ypg wont be like 2011 but with some more takeaways it could be comparable. Biggest things are CB play, Landon Collins, and the OLine...

  • The oline is the key. Skill players need time to throw and catch and holes to run through. Ua will take a step back in 2013 on the oline. Just impossible to replace the talent and experience we lost. We will be good, but oline will determine how good.

I agree. It is crazy when you start to think of the talent on campus. I knew that we would always be loaded on defense with Saban but our offensive talent is ridiculous.

This. That was a big problem in '10. We had two NFL 1st round backs and neither Ingram nor Richardson had great years.

  • LOS will always be where the game is won. I feel good about our OL next year. There will be a drop off but still a "winning" OL IMO.

The talent is here! It all depends on attitude, the ability not to listen to the hype, the leadership of our players. We will once again be the most physical team in the country. Coaching...well we do have Coach Saban!

  • I've always heard that this game is won in the trenches and we have a lot of new OL's and DL's. They are not going to just give us #16. We are going to have to earn it.

I miss upchurch. Never will forget how smooth he looked against va tech, and the game winner against the barn.

Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.

No. AJ being a superb passer made a huge difference in Eddie's production. Put Ingram on last years team and he absolutely lights it up.

Dont forget that GMAC went through a span of playing pretty poorly and Ingram basically carried that team through.

I disagree, still think Lacy is a better back than Ingram.
