Just need to brag a bit...

  • Wife just save birth to a boy this morning! We had multiple trips to the ER during these past 9 months and I was very worried about him surviving, but he did and he is awesome!

Any tips on how to deal with the lack of sleep would be appreciated!

  • Congratulations, now you can add to the other thread about your son playing for Alabama!

As far as sleep, my wife and I would alternate nights so that at least we knew we could sleep every other night!

    Congrats!

Whiskey for both you and your son, in moderation of course. This will also come in handy when he starts teething. biggrin

    Congrats.

You learn to go with less sleep during that time you will be feeding him all the time.

I have a 4 month old. Thankfully she sleeps through the night. But she still eats every 3 hours and she lets you know about it too.

But you learn to change that sleeping.

BTW, the best thing to do is to not start bad habits you have to break. For example, don't let him sleep in the bed with you. First it is dangerous. Second, I have a relative that still has their 14 month old in the bed with them and they can't get him out. Get that kid transferred to a pack and play in your room soon and then as quickly as possible to the crib in your nursery. We got my daughter to the crib in a month and a half or two months. That helps with the sleeping.

This is good advice. We started our daughter in her crib the night she got home from the hospital. I've got friends whose kids are over a year who either have to be in the bedroom with them or have to sleep in the bed because they waited too long.

Also, get the book 'Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child' and read it. Or better yet, do what I did and get your wife to read it and tell you the important stuff. It is by far the best baby book we got.

Also, always have lots of strong, dark coffee around.

    Have fun. Nothing beats parenthood.

  • Congratulations! Great thing about technology of today is DVR. Go ahead and set the coffee pot or stock the fridge with your favorite energy drink. Be ready to get up with him for that 2:00 am feeding/changing and turn on your favorite Bama game.

Great bonding time. Your wife will get some precious sleep and like you a little more. (G)

Enjoy your son. They grow up too fast. RTR!

  • If mom and baby are going to be in the hospital for more than one night get at least one night sleeping at home. Other than that just realize you are going to be tired and fight through it. Congrats man. This ones a life changer.

Lately he's been wakin' up every couple hours w/ gas pains. I feel bad some nights b/c my wife does most of the wakin' up w/ him--but I can't breastfeed...so...I try to help when I can...

  • Forget about sleeping. I have a 6 week old and i can tell you enjoy him every minute bc they grow too fast. Our lil boy looks different every day. Basically BOL will be a thing of the past once you leave the hospital. I get on here like twice a day gor 5-10 min and just catch a few clips of sportscenter a day. I hope you have family nearby to help, its a lifesaver at times.
In all serious my wife and i have found splitting time each night works best for us. But its different for everyone ... got to find your own rhythm that works best. It will get better and you'll get used to it. All i can say is enjoy him you can never get time back! This may seem odd but youll love him more and more everyday (i know it doesnt seem possible to love him anymore). Enjoy and congrats! Roll tide!
