Kiper: Lacy needs to lose spin move.

  • That's like telling Saban to stop being great. Oh Kiper...lol. You suck again

Here's the thing about covering a draft - Through the Senior Bowl and Combine, everyone is pretty much on the up-and-up because everyone's still figuring out who the real prospects are etc.

After the Combine it's all misinformation and trying to get players to drop to you. I'll bet you anything someone put this idea into Kiper's head (and trust me, sorting through all this stuff to find out what's legit and what's not is not easy).

Reminder, Alabama's Pro day is a week from today.

Hear, hear. We all need to remind ourselves of this principle on a daily basis during draft season.

I kept waiting for some Safety/LB to time up a hit and pop EL coming out of the spin. He's blind and if it happened would be a surefire fumble.
...but it's never happened so far. Will it? Who knows...

Most running backs can see the hit well before it happens, they have great depth perception and vision and rarely take hits they don't see coming. His spin is never forced and is instinctive and he generally spins away from danger and the times e hasn't he comes out of the spin low and ready for contact. I think it would do more damage to try and change a running back to prevent his instincts.

Just glad that Kiper didn't influence the use of the spin move by these guys.

    Yeah...Barry Sanders' spins were sick!

    Couple thoughts:

    1) Are you freakin' kidding regarding Lacy? I guess he didn't watch that TD where the spin move basically left two Notre Dame players frozen and grasping for air. Lacy uses it effectively as any runningback juking. He loses no power or momentum when he emerges from his spin move.

    2) To rate any guard ahead of Warmack is asinine. B/c he runs the freakin' 40 a half step behind some one doesn't make sense since he ever seldom run like that in pro ball. He's devestating when he pulls and does the job more than adequately.

I wouldn't necessarily agree on the whole Warmack thing. Don't get me wrong I think Warmack is one of the top guys in the draft, and is an amazing talent at guard. I think the intrigue with Cooper is he is a bit bigger than Chance and he may have great upside, not their 40 times. That being said I would rate Warmack 1st and Cooper a very close 2nd, simply because you know you're getting a Day 1 starter with CW.

I'm a Cowboys fan so I hope Jones gets smart and gets one of these two guys if they're available at 18.

  • Maybe Lacy will need to lose the spin move. But if so, it will be his -coaches- that tell him this.

WTH are these Hall of Fame RBs thinking. Spin move?......huh?......Kiper......SMDH

LaDainian Tomlinson worked on the spin move. He breaks it down into 4 distinct points on how to perform it effectively.

  • The body of work that is Chance Warmack will get him drafted in the top 10...the combine is fresh on everyone's minds and these guys love to talk results up. The NFL guys that are going to pay these guys put in Warmack's and Fluker's film and say that's the guy I want. Fluker's spot is about right because the class this year is deep, no way Warmack lasts that long.

Kiper has Lacy at 25 on his newest big board but says he needs to lose the spin move. Considering how effective it is for Eddie, does he really need to? Is it too dangerous a move, resulting in injuries?

Also, Kiper has Milliner at #2, Warmack at #9, Fluker at #21, Lacy at #25. Has Cooper one spot ahead of Warmack now. I noticed McShay has Cooper going 10 to the Titans and Warmack 18 to the Cowboys. I think Cooper must have had a better combine.

Kiper has no business making such a suggestion to the projected #1 RB in the 2013 NFL Draft.

  • During the 2011 season Lacy's spin move seemed a bit over-utilized, and his ball protection was pretty sloppy since he tended to extend his arms to maintain balance. It was almost as if he considered it his trademark and would do it just to show off, often times to little effect. He really cleaned that up during 2012 though, and I think he definitely used it more appropriately and to his advantage.

i can see it leading to ankle injuries but that would be rare...its his trademark

I think ankle injuries would be a problem for potential tacklers LOL

Good obs. I do agree that he cleaned it up more last season. My fumble concerns really came from the previous season

  • Is this the same Mel Kiper who didn't think Russell Wilson would be any good? Or is it the guy who thought Jimmy Clausen would be good? Or, is it the same one who said Blaine Gabbert was on Cam's level? Hey Mel you don't watch any college football so why don't you find a tall building and jump off knees 1st.

  • For those that didn't know....we have Spin Move 2.0, the remix at RB in this 2013 class. I've seen it a plethora of times and it is filthy due to the quickest feet I've seen ever seen in a high school RB....Lots of speed/quickness ladder work no doubt. He's used it to make defenders miss tackles and I've seen it used to spin out of tackles.

Just hope he isn't listening to Mel.
