Knile Davis

  • I always hear about how great a back he is and seen his stats his sophmore year so I decided to watch his highlight film. I didn't see anything spectacular and don't see why people are always hyping him as a top 15 pick. He may very well be a good back but I don't see what all of the fuss is with him. No broken tackles and no big stats against stout defenses. Am I missing something here?

  • He's good, but it takes an exceptional talent to go top 15 in today's league, and a Trent Richardson he is not, or a Mark Ingram for that matter, who barely snuck in the first round.

    He is not better than Lattimore. Sorry, but this is a ludicrous statement. What has Davis done? The OP states a legit concern. Davis is claimed to be great because others claim him to be great but no one is stating the reasons why. They are simply not there. At least not yet. But to claim him better than Lattimore is to ignore obvious production and claim he is better based on hopeful prognostication.

  • He is a big guy with very good speed. I would agree Lattimore is the better of the two but Davis may well be the second best in the conference. He also catches the ball well out of the backfield.

    1322 yards on 204 attempts for 6.5 YPC and 13 touchdowns in a pass-first offense. You're right, dude hasn't done anything.

    Davis never got 37 carries in a game...And Lattimore has received more hype than Davis in my opinion....no real differences stand out between the two in my opinion.

    ESPN Insider had one of the best statistical analysis articles I've ever read in comparing the SEC RBs in July 2011 based on their 2010 seasons prior to the 2011 season.

    2010 Stats
    Knile Davis 204 carries, 1,322, 6.48 ypc
    Marcus Lattimore 249 carries, 1,197, 4.81 ypc

    Category No. 1: Percentage of rush attempts with big gains (10-plus yards)
    Davis (5.9 percent)
    Lattimore (3.6 percent)

    Category No. 3: Yards per attempt (YPA) against top competition (defined as teams that ranked in the top 30 in rush yards per attempt allowed)
    Davis (6.03 YPA)
    Lattimore (3.99 YPA)

    Category No. 4: Yards per attempt against weaker competition (defined as foes that did not rank in the top 30 in rush yards per attempt allowed)
    Davis (6.99 YPA)
    Lattimore (5.71 YPA)

    Category No. 5: Good blocking YPA against four SEC opponents with top-30 rankings in rush YPA (Alabama, Auburn, LSU and South Carolina -- chosen because they were the most common SEC opponents from these running backs' schedules)
    Davis (8.14 YPA)
    Lattimore (5.52 YPA)

    Based on the analysis, Knile Davis was the #1 RB in the SEC heading in the 2011 season [prior to his injury] and Lattimore was 5th. The only category that Lattimore was better is that he had more carries. Davis is much more explosive, dynamic.

  • I think he will have a good but unipressive year (1,000-1,200 yds). I think there will be a lot of analysts asking themselves what happened, when in reality the reason will be that he is no longer playing behind Mallet and an allstar cast of wide receivers with CBP getting him open looks with great play calls.

    Well, I think that premise is flawed as Wilson is better then Mallet and I think for the most part the system makes those receivers. If he comes back healthy and stays that way he'll have a monster year. You don't put up those rushing numbers in the SEC by faking defenses on draw plays.
