Kobe

  • One heck of a run as of late. He not the dynamic player Jordan was, but he's all but unstoppable shooting the ball when he gets in a zone.

Respectfully disagree. Micheal Jordan best at everything a guard and forward did in basketball. End of discussion.

  • Great contested shooter, work ethic, and his footwork allow him to remain amongst the best players in the NBA. Don't know where I would rank him in todays NBA but still a elite player.

  • Kobe sure is fun to watch. I got to see him against the Hornets in Nola a few years back when he went on that streak of scoring 50pts for so many games in a row. He isn't Jordan but dude is a player, definitely one of the all time greats.

  • Kobe is a baller, nothing but respect for him. In the league today, I would let him take a final shot over any other player.

    BuriedAlive14

  • kobe might be the best overall contested shooter, that is inside the line plus outside the line combined
MJ would be the best inside but not outside (although all bets off if for a ring)
    outside maybe reggie miller

  • Michael was more explosive athlete. He shot less contested shots because it was harder to contest his shot. Michael still the man I want with ball at end of game. Kobe is second.

    hytboy12

  • No doubt Kobe is as close to MJ as anyone can come. Lebron is just a Freak, if we ever want to call an athlete a freak he's it. Neither imho will ever be Michael, hell we don't have a song that says

Wanna be like Kobe, or Wanna be like Lebron (g) Nope. It's I wanna be like MIKE! Still, both top elite players and as close as we may ever get to his airness greatness.

    disagree
with all the hand checking and hard fouling in MJs day almost all his shots were contested
though your point about him being so explosive made it appear it was easy
watch an MJ highlight real and he would go around over under guys--thats all contested shots--guys hands and arms are everywhere he just went somewhere else

  • The rules went both ways. Offensive players (ask Russell) got away with stuff also. It was a different game. Michael was best ever period not real close either.

    hytboy12

  • Lebron is such a different player than Mike and Kobe. He is more versatile than either of them. I also feel like he is more physically gifted than either of the other two. However, Kobe has more will to win than any basketball player sans Michael. Lebron wants to win but does not live and die it like the other two.

  • MJ, IMO was the best. I am 63 old so you guys might not remember Oscar Robertson ( averaged I think a triple double for one season), or Elgin Baylor ( who was like pure silk on the court), or DR. J ( who was the original MJ) lastly Bob Cousey, who it seemed could pass the ball from anywhere on the court & usually did. My point is there has & always will be great players.
Just look at BAMA football players. Its a who's who fron the 1920's till now. How lucky we are to be living in the 3rd or 4th golden age of BAMA football! ROLL TIDE ROLL!

So he was the greatest shooter, rebounder, and assist maker of any guard/forward that's ever played? Disagree.

  • I know lots hate him, and I understand.

But to do what he does with his age, tread on the tires after 17 years is amazing. He is having a good year especially in efficiency numbers to go along with his 4th in scoring. His defense has dropped off a good bit this year though.

Also think about how many games he has played in? 17 years and only 1 time did the Lakers not go to the playoffs. Of course this year might be number two.

  • Best and most accurate post I have seen on here on any topic, except Samp and his women posts.

Well said and we didn't have to get into the stupid, IMO, Kobe vs MJ vs LBJ debate.

Those Lakes teams that he came in the league with was really good! With so many good players on those teams, it is hard to say Kobe was the man when they was winning! But he was a big part of it.

  • My top 5 all time players would be in order Bill Russel best defensive rebounder and best outlet passer the game has ever seen not mention 13 time champion. 2 is Wilt chamberlain best scorer the game has ever seen, 3 is Magic johnson most versatile player the game has ever seen, 4 Larry bird the best pure shooter the game has ever seen, and MJ Who was different in the fact that all the above players mentioned had an all star center on their respective championship teams, Although the way jordan played the game may not even have mattered if he had an all star center or not dude just wanted the ball and he knew what to do with it when he had it.

lol did you just rank 4 players above Michael Jordan? no

Here's why Kobe will never be as good as MJ:

MJ career field goal %/PPG: 50%/30 PPG
KB career field goal %/PPG: 45%/25 PPG

    SweetHomeNYC

  • Jordan is the best contested shot maker of all time. I'll give Kobe credit, he took the torch of the mid range from MJ and carried it on, but Jordan was the best at it, hands down. Guys tried to contest MJ's shot in the air, tried to swipe the ball before the shot...whatever...just nothing they could do.

  • With the above being said, Kobe is as close to MJ as you can get without actually being MJ. Same will to win, same "no-bullshit" mentality, and very similar game. Kobe's footwork is neck-and-neck with MJ's in my opinion. Kobe will def go down as one of the greatest of all-time.

Thenet me drop some knowledge for you.
    NBA All Time Leading
    Scorer - #3
    Steals - #3
    Rings - 6
Combine all those and IMO he was the best. When someone wins 3 in a row, takes a year off and plays Minor League Baseball, comes back and wins another 3 in a row.
