Kudos on 4 RB class

  • All year we saw post after post about how we could not keep all THREE running backs, Tyren, Altee and Derrick. Then, it went to a new level when we looked like we were going to add Kamara. The posters kept posting about which player they didn't care if we lost and hoped they would go elsewhere because we didn't need them anyway. Now the coaches plan comes together, we land ALL four running backs in what has to be in contention for the greatest running back signing class of all time; only time will tell. Everytime I would read a post about how we didn't need this player or that and "don't let the door it ya in the butt on the way out fool," I cringed and shook my head, hoping the prospect or their family were not reading the post. This class is going to be fun to watch develop and see how each of their roles unfold. Roll Tide!

    I agree on Kamara. He's pretty quick in space. Everyone is always looking for the next Reggie Bush. (playing ability wise, not extra benefits wise. :)

    The best thing about the 4 is the versatility of each. Not one of the backs are tied into one roll only. Each can be used in different formations, different assignments, different situations. That to me, along with their insane talent of course, is what makes this Quartet so special.

    Can't wait to see how each is used over the next few years. O yeah, lol how about the guys already on the roster and of course the players that will come in with the following classes. no (I need a smh with a smile on it)

    Both outstanding in space, but Palmer was quicker in the hole with more wiggle. Kamara is a faster one-cut runner with outstanding vision.

  • My fear with the 4 RB's was that we would rotate so much that it wouldn't allow any one RB to really get in a groove. I remember watching TRich, and you could tell when he was about to hit his groove, he would get a couple of short runs, get start besting his chest, shaking his head, just look for defenders to lay out, and then I knew he was about to break one.

    If Kamars moves to the slot, or lines up at RB and then motions out to the slot, Henry does the same at TE/HB, and that leaves Tenpenny and Jones as the only true every down RBs. This will be an exciting spring to see who end up where and how they will be used!

    I think I see more Javy in Kamara than Palmer? Especially from a return game aspect. shrug And if so, I would take it everyday of the year. Javy was HUGE for our '09 season. A great returner can put in position to win games every week. Flipping the field, scoring plays, putting your offense in short yardage position before even taking the field.

    I've heard Saban address this in no uncertain terms; all-4 of them will be used as running backs. Each will have their opportunity to get early playing time. But, ultimately, their strengths will be utilized situationally, to the team's benefit. Try not to overly concern yourself about our depth at RB. It's going to work itself out.

    If you're interested, watch Alvin's highlight videos on youtube.com. To me, he runs very similarly to Kenjon Barner.

  • I can remember posts about which one we could afford to lose but never did I read anything about "don't let the door hit ya" admitting I did not read all the posts. Not sure what you are trying to do in this thread other than call some posters out for your own gratification. With that in mind I will agree this is the RB class this year but will have to question your motives here.

  • The thing that gets me sometimes is that most people miss the fact that Kamara can run and likes to run between the tackles. If you watch his tape the aspect of his game that gets overlooks is his physicality. He gets the stereotype of being a " scat back" which is completely wrong.

    My thoughts are Kamara was a HUGE get for us ....and my layman view is he will play a Josh Reed slot receiver role, as Saban used so effectively at LSU. You may recall the 289 yard gm receiving performance he had in our house back in the day. Kamara in space = MISMATCH

  • I agree DHS.. Kamara runs like he is bigger than he is and did not seem to be afraid of contact at all... I actually remembet thinking I clicked on the wrong YouTube video after the 1st 2 or 3 plays because he laid the wood a few times on guys bigger than him.. I was pleasantly surprised.

    I agree with Kamara but disagree with Henry. I think many people think that just because he's big, he's going to follow Fowler, but he seems like a Brandon Jacobs type RB to me.

  • I think AK will be absolutely lethal in our zone blocking scheme. His 10m burst is insane and with the holes our oline can open, he should be able to hit the second level extremely quickly. I can see him picking up 2 or 3 20-30 yard chunks per game (not sure about long speed, especially vs the speed of SEC safeties). AT and TJ strike me as your prototypical backs, TJ has great vision change of direction ability due to his footwork, should deliver some extremely exciting runs within the box. I find AT style right now to be nothing fancy, jack of all trades master of none, but his body type has to make you think he has the highest ceiling. Haven't watched much on DH.

    After reading Charles comments on Kamara and the yards he put up against some of the best HS talent in the country, I think he stays at RB and does very well.
