Might help with kids from the area? This is something if I were associated with AU - I would continually look to do as available of course. They're usually not going to year in and year out compete with UA for the elite guys within the state. Just look at recruiting in state the last 5 years. Now, sure, when things are way down at BAMA they may get their share but realistically how often will that be? Especially now over the next decade. So, you have to find any and all advantages you can find. What better way than bringing in High School coaches to your staff, again where applicable?

Chip's wife used to work with me a few years back. They are a good family. If this is supposed to be an answer in Bham then AU struck out. Chip has moved around so much he doesn't have the connections in Bham like Stevenson has in Mobile. Realistically he probably has more connections in GA.

Every coach AU has hired in the past 25 years has been a "guru".

Remember him from here when we were kids. I was talking to a friend of mine that told me about the hire. Our conversation then went like this,

Me: is he a good coach?
Him: I guess so.
Me: do you think it will help the barn?
Him: (chuckle) naw, it's Chip

I will say I am proud for him being from Sheffield and wish him the best, except when Bama is directly involved.

I always consider a coach a guru who has coached a 1A school and Troy State for a year then spent a few seasons at a largely irrelevant 6A school

On a side note he was Michael Ricks coach in high school I do believe.

With all the resources that Spain Park ad Hoovet at their disposal and the numbers they have over most schools n the state, where are the big time prospects? Bobby's kid (2014) is the only one I can remember that can stake that claim lately. I know a lot of kids go D1 from there but most all just aren't good enough to play for us, or even more funny...AU. Lately of course. I could be wrong but I just don't remember many to be taken by these schools. Jus something I was thinking about
