Just got home from a 6 hour drive....lots of time to catch up on sports radio and chew on the game.

-I keep hearing alot of people say that LSU dominated the game. I disagree. We had a 14-3 lead going in to the half. Early 3rd we drive down the field and are going in for the score when AJ fails to put the ball in Yeldon's belly. Running back isn't looking at the ball and didn't seem to short hand it. That would have made it 21-10. It was a tale of 2 halves.
-I can think of at least 3 passes that Mettenberger completed where the DB had his hand on the ball. As my DB coach sometimes told me, "great defense, better offense."
-We averaged 6.6 ypc, they averaged 3.3 ypc.
-The smartest thing Miles said leading up to the game was that they are so familiar with Bama that they can tell by the way we line up what's coming. It's like the Redskins or Cowboys beating the Giants. Giants much better team, but your old foes know you best.
-Great gameplan by LSU's OC. He got matchups (very NFL like) on our LB's and let's face it, their slot receivers were at an advantage being covered by Vinnie and Perry.
-I think AJ's back contusion was worse than we expected. He missed on several wide open receivers.....typical of someone with a back injury who's throwing mechanics are off.
-Les Miles made questionable calls a few times....we didn't. Last time I checked, coaches are part of the team. So no....the better team Saturday night wasn't LSU. They exposed some weaknesses and had a raucous crowd on their side. We were pushed to the brink.....to a place we haven't been all year. AND WE RESPONDED!! Champions do that, good 6-2 teams don't. Don't give me any of that junk that LSU was better. I've never understood that.....how can a team lose if they were the better team ON THAT NIGHT?!?! Yes higher ranked teams can lose because they didn't play well enough to win. But when you WIN you were clearly the better team THAT NIGHT!

Anyway, just the way I see it. My brother in law who lurks on here told me,"you finally got the game you wanted!" Yeah, I did, but.....let's go back to just kicking people's arses.

    RTR!

Good post. Thanks. The lack of carries for our run game at 6+ yards a carry was strange. Agreed. FEED. THE. BEAST.

  • I just rewatched the game for the 3rd time. No doubt that Alabama played their worst game of the year on both offense and defense. I wouldn't call it a domination, we just weren't used to other teams scoring on us and moving the ball consistently up and down the field on us like LSU did. But let's be for real, if we didn't score that final TD, half of this board would be on suicide watch right now.

Good analysis. I think we need to be thankful for the resolve and conditioning of our team, especially the defense. Contrary to what the announcers said , I don't think our first team defense had dead legs. Credit depth , and liberal substitution of young and talented defenders during the game also.

For LSU to have such a TOP advantage and to lose the game is huge. To me , it means we defend the red zone at a high level . For all the LSU what ifs , I see two or three third down conversions by us coupled with no fumble on the handoff resulting in a 17 point victory. But we don't have to do what ifs we won.lol

BTW DM , still have you in our prayers. It is goodbye see you posting. RTR

  • Don't forget LSU had a week off to heal and tune up for us, also they have been practicing to beat us since the BCS NC game last year. They went all out to beat us
we were a tiny bit worn/dinged and did not play our best game, usually happens in one game ever year, thank goodness we fought through it. We are the better team
even though we struggled for most of the second half.

  • I wonder what the rushing results for LSU look like of you throw out the yards gained in the first quarter?

LSU rushed for 89 yards in the first qtr. Thta would put them with 5o yards for the remaining 3 qtrs. IMO, a team that dominates doesnt rush for 50 yards in 3 qtrs and avg less than 3 ypc for the game.

  • Good post by all...for me I think it is really hard for a team who is consistently ranked #1to play to that level all year...you will usually have a game with a good opponent who plays great and your rhythm is just not there or you have breaks that go the other way...but the elite will find a way win as we did. This was the wake up call Bama needed which will help this team to get better but in my view the big difference for us this year vs last year is we just don't have the lock down DB's that we had in the past. But I do think our pass rush is beggining to gel and get better and our OL is now firing on all cylinders. CS will adjust in someway this week with the DB's.

  • Home field advantage, the revenge factor, and coming off a bye week. They had everthing in their favor and we still won. I will take it.
