Lacy & the composite ranking

  • I look back at the composite rankings and I see E Lacy at 124 and there are a number of RBs ranked ahead of him. Now no RB is ranked ahead of him going into this draft. I love it.

    One thing no one can predict is the maturity in a teenager to be able to make the best decisions for their career. I'm sure it would have been easy for Lacy to stay in LA and go to LSU, especially after Trent committed, but he came to UA anyway. He may have even had the opportunity to attend some other school and play his freshman year, maybe even start. I am thankful he chose the good guys. I wish him the best in the NFL.

  • E Lacy had a bad knee injury in HS... many scouts said he was just as good as Trent coming out but he wouldnt get the exposure due to that injury.

    I am glad he decided to come too - he was my favorite RB in the Saban era.. but Henry might replace him...

  • There were also a lot of grade questions surrounding lacy. He was once a 5 star on rivals before slipping....mainly bc many thought he wouldn't qualify.

    This is just one thing I've never understood as far as rankings go... Marcel Dareus was a pretty widely regarded stud, but ranked as a 3 star for this very reason. Doesn't make sense, if he is a stud rank him as such and if he fails to qualify so be it, not qualifying wouldn't make him a 3 star... Chance Warmack suffered a little from the same perception.

    Grades shouldn't be evaluated in the kids star ranking, if anything there should be a separate ranking that shows his qualifying chances. That way you can see that a kid is a stud but has a long way to go instead of wow that kids film looks like a stud on film but the evaluators have him as a 3*, hmmm wonder what's up

  • If I remember correct, EL grey shirted too...Impressive character in my opinion to do this, and in the end it all paid off.

  • Agreed on all fronts, but remember #124 nationally is a helluva a ranking out of 3000+ kids. That means that Lacy was considered a big time prospect coming out. Also, he was a high grade risk. If his academics were in better shape coming out, he would have definitely be rated higher. One of the reasons is reported in such bad physical shape, is because the Alabama staff told/helped him to 100 per focus on qualifying. He gets talked about as a bruiser nationally, but he's got the best feet of any big back that's been through Alabama in the past 10 years. If he stays healthy, could have a special career in the NFL (IMO).
