Looks like the SEC just told A&M no

  • Wow. on twitter

  • Statement from Dr. Bernie Machen, Chair, Southeastern Conference Presidents and Chancellors:

“The SEC Presidents and Chancellors met today and reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment. We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league. We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M.”

  • Sounds to me the details are far from being worked out. Why would the SEC at this point extend an invitation to a school who might say no?

  • Thank goodness.

  • Very suprising that slive has been negotiating then the academicians get involved and screw it up.

The sec will get left behind. Being on top is fine but staying on top requires innovation.

  • Sounds like it makes perfect sense. This move is for TV revenue, which benefits Slife. What benefit does it give individual universities? None. They say "Thanks but no thanks. Next."

  • I wouldn't read too much into this. They have to make a statement that indicates they are not actively seeking expansion in order to try to avoid a claim for interference with an existing contractual relationship. They may tell aggie to FO, but this ain't that.

  • How are we getting behind exactly? I really don't understand this comment at all. The ACC isn't expanding. UT is destroying the Big 12. The only league thats added anything is an average PAC-10 & The Big 10 has added Nebraska. I'm sorry but in my eyes we still have a better brand of football than both of those leagues & The Big 12 is an absolute mess. I'd say just let it work out & we'll see what happens when the smoke clears. I don't think the SEC is worried about Colorado & Utah joining the PAC-10 nor Nebraska joining the Big 10. The SEC forced those moves years ago. These leagues are just now finally jumping onboard what the SEC started imo.

  • Glad A&M not coming to SEC. Our conference is the best, so there is no need to change anything when you are on top. Can you say 5 straight National Champs with hopefully 6 on the way?

How does adding a middle of the pack Big XII school just for the sake of having 13 members help keep the SEC ahead of the pack? It doesn't. Winning bowl games, other inter-conference games, and NCs keeps you in the front, not having more teams than everyone else. Quality over quantity.

Listen, troglodyte, we need to get on the train before Conference USA leaves us on the platform.

    Douché!

  • 1tide, you just discussed the past and present but said nothing about the future.

The big 10 and pac 10 both now have conference title games and which will help their teams get in the national title game when all records are equal. So, there is 1 place we are not moving forward.

Second the big 10 said they are expanding in the future. When they do they will get a lot of pub and respect which could create a perception their conference is better. Once agai the sec is not moving forward.

Third we have already been passed in television revenue.

I believe if you are not moving forward then you are falling behind. Winning on the field is great and all but the rest of the country is doing everything they can to take back over college football from the sec. Resting on past success will guarantee failing in the future.

Damn. I forgot about them. They're destroying the other conferences with their countless member institutions in major TV markets all over the country. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go google troglodyte and see if you complimented or insulted me.

  • Dude we already have a title game. OSU is about to be on probation & Michigan is still down thanks to RR. The quality of that league is severly lacking. Who could they add in the future to improve that league? Unless they pull an OU to go with Nebraska it's not happening. & now to the PAC-10. Oregon has taken over USC as the top dog in the league. That in its own right is a huge positive going forward. Utah & Colorado only gave them a championship game imo. It added a couple of average football teams that won't shift the balance at the top. Until another blue blood joins one of these leagues. The SEC has nothing to worry about if u ask me.

  • This is nothing more than the SEC officials saying all the right things until all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed. Pay much attention to the "however" part at the end.

I posted this a little prematurely. The SEC had to do this today from a legal stand point. Tomorrow at TAMUs Board of Regents meeting, they will formaly apply to the SEC. Slive knows that until that happens, nothing can be done. Im guessing they will be officially in the SEC as of tomorrow.

I THINK this is pretty accurate. If I understand procedure correctly, the SEC is not going to officially extend an invite to A&M until they secede from the Big 12. We are not in the business of poaching schools from other conferences. A deal may very well be in place where if A&M votes to secede tomorrow an invite will be extended. But who knows?

My problem with all of this is how the media has reported this entire course of events.....ridiculous.
