He's Co-Offensive Coordinator and RB coach at Texas. The horns believe he is the man to replace Mack whenever that will be. To me, he is meh

I agree on both counts, but I will say that he didnt have a lot to work with in 2007. Saban and staff did a miracle job to get that team to a bowl game and win it. There are no excuses for Major's tenure at Texas, though.

What the hell is he doing in Orlando, Fl eating at a soul food restaurant?

  • Texas gets about as little bang for their buck in terms of RB production as is humanely possible. They have five stars all over the place that they don’t know how to use. So certainly while Major appears to be a nice guy, it’s hard to be very impressed with his production so far at Texas.

I appreciate what CNS has done as much as anybody, but to say it was miracle to get to a bowl in 2007 must be serious hyperbole.

To be fair, that team wasn't very talented by our current standards. Smith and Caldwell were dominant on the O-line, GIlberry was a force at DE, and McCall / Walker were a great duo at TE, but outside of them I'm not sure a single player who played meaningful snaps that season would have even cracked last year's 2-deep (maybe DJ Hall, off-field notwithstanding, and Simeon would have found PT somewhere).

Heck, outside of WCU, Vandy, UT, and Houston, I'm not sure we were better than any other team we played (and Houston was a batted ball away). McFadden could have run for 400 yards against us and I'm pretty sure Ole Miss got screwed in Oxford (I was about 20 feet away from the controversial catch and from my vantage point, we touched it first).

Why? We're talking about the first (and only) Bama team since 1970 to not have a single player drafted. The same team that lost to Louisiana Monroe and Sylvester Croom's Mississippi State. I think it was absolutely a miracle of a job to get us to a bowl AND win it.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I wasn't calling it a miracle in 2006 when Mike Shula did the same thing with a great handful of the same players.

And let's not forget, that the year after 2007 we were 10-0 heading into the SECCG. I understand that CNS was changing the culture, but I don't think its accurate to say we were so devoid of talent it was a miracle to make a bowl when two years before we were 10-2, the year before we were 7-6 and the following year we were 10-2.

Great points, so I'll have to agree. I suppose we achieved at about the "normal" level in '07, given our talent and experience. Can't really say Saban won any more or less than he probably should have, at least +/- 1.

I was way the hell impressed with him when he took John Chavis to school with a rag-tag offensive line, only hours after finding out he had lost his All-American center and another starting lineman to the textbook suspensions.

Surely they dont really believe he is the man. Whats he done since hes been there other than being non-productive? Facts are facts. He hasnt produced at a school with arguably the most resources in the nation and in a conference with virtually zero defenses. And he coaches on offense! Facts dont lie. I wish him well because hes a good guy, but he's laid an egg at Texas so far IMO.
