Marlon Humphrey- National Champion and National Record

  • Humphrey is competing in the AAU Club National Championship down in Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.

Humphrey just set the AAU Club National Record in the Intermediate (Age 15-16) Age Group by running 13.97 in the 110m Hurdles (into a -1.7 m/s headwind) breaking the previous record held by Heisman Winner RGIII who ran 13.98 in 2006. Humphrey also competed in the Intermediate Age Group 100m Dash and finished in 3rd place with a time of 11.12 into a -1.0 m/s headwind. Humphrey did break the 11.00 sec barrier in the prelims running a 10.97 with a 1.0 m/s tailwind which is a LEGAL time. Tailwinds of > 2.0 m/s are not allowed for record purposes due to too much wind assistance in running the time.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • Also, of note, Bama RB commit Tyren Jones' 11 year-old sister (competing in the 12 year old group as she will turn 12 during the 2012 Calendar Year) has done the following this week:

-Midget (Age 12)- National Champion and National Record in Girls Pentathlon (consists of 80m hurdles, Shot Put, Long Jump, High Jump, 800m run)
-World Record and National Record for Age Group in the Long Jump (18'01"). Did this in Pentathlon Event. Didn't win individual National Championship as the event was ongoing during some of her other events.
-National Champion, World Record and National Record for Age Group in the 200m Dash (24.74)
-National Champion, National Club Record for Age Group in the 100m Dash (12.51)
-National Champion, National Club Record for Age Group in the 80m Hurdles (11.62)

Had a chance to observe one of her workouts.....and she works as hard as members of our US Olympic Track Team.

big time! i've seen faster in the 100 at that age but not the hurdles. i'd love to see him run em, no doubt very smooth across the hurdles!

  • One of the All-Time great CBs was an elite hurdler in his day as the event requires top-flight speed, explosiveness and flexibility.... Traits present in most of the great CBs.

Rod Woodson is the guy I'm referring to. Other CBs like Darrell Green, Deion Sanders, and Champ Bailey also excelled in track (as did countless other current and former NFL CBs) with Sanders also playing baseball.

Starting to think Humphrey may be the best "athlete" in the Class of 2014 along with being a 5 Star CB.

I saw Marlon Humphrey play against Spain Park, where i graduated, last year. He just jumped off of the field. He was all over the place. Had a ridiculous pick 6 during the first half. When he intercepted the ball there was no way i thought he was going to return it all the way. It wasnt your typical breaking on a short out route and then having clear field for 6. I think it was like a deep in, not exactly sure but it was quite a return. I hope we land him. Best HS prospect out of Hoover since Chad Jackson IMO. Unless there is someone else I am not thinking of. Roll Tide
