Marvin Shinn transfer

  • Crimson Empire said...

He's referring the Oregon/Willie Lyles situation. Seastrunk was involved in that and has since transferred to Baylor.

That's what I meant, of course. Oregon has a LOA over Seatsrunk's recruitment, and they are scheduled to go before the infractions committee in a few months.

I was just saying that seastrunk leaving was unique because it had nothing to do with him as an Oregon player.

  • Strange thread. Best of luck to Marvin! I'm not losing sleep on this one...

Funny thing is, I always watched him on that play and it seemed odd to me every time

I was pretty sure I was not the only one.

No, I had the same thought at the time... it was weird. I watched it a few times because it got my attention. When I heard the news on him this week, it was the first thing I thought of about him. Who knows what was going through his mind on that play, but it was not the kind of reaction you'd expect.

My bad was just breezing through and that triggered my interest. Rtr

  • We can't forget that ArDarius Stewart says he will be starting out at WR. He is a very special athlete also.

And I respectfully disagree. I don't think there is any chance he would be #2. More likely, Black, Foster (well see of course), White, Jones, Jones depending on if both remain at WR at least all would be ahead of him IMHO. Sure, there is always a chance he moves up. That's what good players do over time. However, its telling me everything I truly need to know if he's decided moving on is best for him...baring it being only for personal reasons of course.

Players of this talent level don't leave the best program in the country if they believe they have any shot at playing (again IF that is what's most important to them). Now if this is also about others reasons than just playing time, none of this matters anyways.

I understand where you're coming from. The reason I disagree with you is this:

    1. Black and Foster haven't even played so none of us have any idea how good they will be.
    2. Both Jones' are excellent slot receivers, and the slot is their natural position.
    3. With Coop being the #1 target and the Jones' being in the mix as well, we don't have a big, tall receiver. Shinn fits this perfectly.
    4. He played in the National Championship game so Coach Saban certainly trusts him.

No clue what you guys are talking about. There is only a brief flash of Shinn on the Yeldon TD video - way too brief to render the type of conclusions being made in this thread.

I do. I'm not surprised at all. Let's be realistic. He will NOT be ahead of....

Cooper, Norwood (should he be ready to go this season) Bell, White, Jones, Jones, probably Black. Add in Foster coming in with his potential of course and maybe another. That's 8 players just right there. OK, so we need injuries most likely again for real true potential playing time (baring something changing in the off season and he growing into a spot not seen to date?) Sure, that could happen but if he's choosing to leave, that should tell us fans everything we need to know IMHO. shrug

When your the elite of elites, bringing in more elites every year....some kids are going to give it a real hard go and re-evalutate themselves to see what might be best for them. I CAN NEVER fault a kid for deciding whats best for him is something else than what we as fans would want for him. Wish him the best.

Bingo. Hate to see him leave but if he feels it's in his best interest , it is what it is.

  • Shinn has not been as good as his high school clippings. From a talent standpoint, no big loss IMHO.

Keeping good guys that are from the home state, go to class, work hard, and want to graduate is a bigger loss.

I disagree. Norwood and Bell graduate after this year, and imo, Shinn would have been our #2 for 2014 behind Cooper.

Please.....The fact alone that Black is healthy knocks him down a rung....

Wait, are you saying Shinn isn't any of those?

  • Im hearing he is transferring to N Illinois this is crazy to me kid played and caught passes in the NC game as a redshirt freshman. If he had stayed and worked hard I have know doubt he has the talent and skill set to make plays at Bama

this surprises me, to me he is very similar to Norwood and could have taken his spot in 2014, one more year with limited reps isn't that bad, and you never know with injuries...

    anyone have anything to add?

Read a month or so ago he decided not to do the "4th qtr. conditioning program" like everyone else so it seems he's tossed in the towel. What a shame.
