  • Mathieu is a really good player but he is falling to all of the unwarranted hype surrounding him all season. He had a colorful nickname on a great team who had very little, if any star power, so the media latched onto him. I am all for defensive players being up for the Heisman, but he should not have been there. His greatest skill is being able to fall on fumbles. He is a really good punt returner too.

Got his panties in a bunch.

@TM7_Era: Can't believe #ESPN SAID we have no shutdown corners! 4 touchdowns given up the whole year! Probably a total of 20 catches total in man!

@TM7_Era: Not to mention, we wreck havoc in all areas of the game as a Secondary! We scored more TD's than we gave up! State facts! #weAreDB-U

@TM7_Era: I'll make them back every word they said up! My pleasure! I have zero tolerance for bandwagon critics! Get a grip WE THE BEST!

@TM7_Era: Can anyone bring up another game where you felt as if I was exposed beside the NC game! I didn't think so? That was one game, 4 catches 0TDs

@TM7_Era: Hype up somebody who don't grind like me, I'm 5'9 but ball as if I'm 6'3! Mad as hell cause they doubted me and I proved em ALL wrong!

@TM7_Era: Freshmen year I went HAM! Sophomore year I went HAMMER! junior year? ONLY LORD CAN SAVE EM

@TM7_Era: Dont rate me !! I'm X rated! A pure playmaker! Focus on the prey!

@TM7_Era: Im really passionate about what I do, don't sit in front a screen and try to find my slightest flaw, WITNESS GREATNESS

We had about 4 shut down corners in the Super Dome!

  • He is a classless player and a punk thug on and off the field. I hope every team they play makes it their mission to embarrass him. I don't think I've ever disliked a player as much as him. This is my family friendly thoughts on him. If I said what I really thought it would be a harsh r rated rant. I hate that guy

  • JMO but I really think stutter and goes and pump fakes are going to eat his lunch. Everyone knows he's disgruntled about the BCSNC and he will be super aggressive. He will go for picks that are not there and get burned. Not too mention the size of WRs are usually bigger than him. Once he's burned he will play softer and screens and short hitches will own him.

  • I actually feel sorry for him. He had a rough childhood but that is not an excuse for his behaviour. He shows no sign of trying to control his anger and I wouldnt be surprised if he was involved in some sort of incident before his career is over.

They had star power. All of it was on defense. They have no offense except run the ball from the I formation with their 280lb FBs, Copeland & Stamper, and that was it.

He deserved his Heisman status. He had a great productive season. And "fall" on fumbles? No. The guy scooped and picked up about 2 or 3 and ran them back (also had 5 or 6 recoveries his freshman year).

Is the guy a good cover corner? No. But lets give him credit where credit is due.

By definition, no, he did not. You can't be the best football player in the country when you aren't the best football player on your team.

How good would LSU have been without Mathieu? How good would they have been without Claiborne? Pretty damn good either way, but without Claiborne locking down one side of the field, Mathieu never has the slightest chance to do what he did. See what his productivity is this year, and then we will talk.

Heisman doesn't go to the best player even on a team. Mark Ingram won the Heisman and wasn't even the best RB on the team (Richardson). If it was about the best player in college football, Tebow would have won 3 straight years, Troy Smith wouldn't have even been in the top-10, and so on.

Mathieu made big plays. Scored more than many teams' starting running back and it wasn't just about the plays he made, but WHEN he made them and the impact on the overall game. The UGA punt return for instance was as big as it gets. Hell if he doesn't make that play, Oklahoma State goes to the title game instead of us.

You can beat him when he plays straight man coverage. In zone he's deadly. As a blitzer, he's as good as they come. I bet you his production will go down and would go down regardless of if he had 2 other CBs and both were Darelle Revis clones for the same reasons Mark Barron and Robert Lester failed to mimic their big INT years. Teams make offseason adjustments.

I don't even know how to respond to this...very little of this holds any water at all. We'll have to agree to disagree.

LSU's defense was great last year. Their team was great last year, but you cannot tell me that their team was filled with high-profile "star" type players. As great a player as Claibourne was, I would bet that across the country, very few people knew much about him. This is a credit to their team, but Michael Brockers and some of their other great defensive players were not stars who the media could hype. I still don't believe he should have been a Heisman finalist. He made some great plays but disappeared for several games during the middle of the season and also had a drug-related suspension.

  • Honeybadger is the little man that gets BIG attention. I

have not been to an LSU board but keep seeing his name on this and other Bama pages.

Best since Dennis Rodman in getting attention.
