  • Jim Chizik? His absence is certainly intriguing.

I'd say Bill Synder or Darrell Hazell deserve it, Brian Kelly will win it.

  • The national disdain for CNS is a crying shame. He is the BEST Coach in the USA, bar none. Maybe they should just name
the trophy the "Nick Saban Coach of the Year" trophy and be done with it. Then let the others compete for being the
SECOND best coach in USA every year.......JIMO. RTR!

  • Why does James Franklin continue to get snubbed for these awards?

    macamatic

  • Only 2 deserving IMO.

    David Shaw and Mike Riley.

To do what Shaw does with the academic requirements is amazing. To do what Riley does with a program like Oregon State and a town like Corvallis is amazing too.

  • Hard to argue with that list for the most part, but I would certainly substitute Hugh Freeze, JIm Franklin and / or CNS for Chip Kelly and Jimbo.

  • Chip Kelly is just Oregon.

It is sort of ridiculous that Nick Saban isn't even listed among like 15 coaches. He is the best coach in the country and will go down as one of the best coaches ever in the history of college football. He has maintained remarkable consistency with five ten win seasons in a row; and has coached a top five team nearly every week for the last five years always still in the National Championship hunt in November. These awards shouldn’t measure performance relative to how good the media thinks the team should be preseason. It’s not Saban’s fault that the media knows he will have a great team because he is an outstanding coach that excels in you know recruiting and development which are huge parts of a coach’s job description! The idea that Dabo Swinney did a better job this year is ludicrous.

He is in prime position and the Vegas favorite to win the BCS NC this year. If he makes it that far that will be an unprecedented level of success for modern era college football. To not have him on a list of 15 coaches is absurd.

  • First... Coach of the year is officially become a joke. It's now the Most Improved Coach Award. Second... Brian Kelly will win. Snyder should Prolly be over him IMO. Third... Just bc you win EVERY year, you shouldn't be left out of the Awards. It's suppose to go to the BEST Coach. When you're the best. You don't have to Improve!

  • Mora- USC beat UCLA 50-0 in 2011. This year UCLA 38 USC 28

Shaw- Replaced Harbaugh as coach in 2011 and had to replace Andrew Luck this year. Took undefeated Notre Dame to overtime in South Bend. Beat previously undefeated Oregon on the road in Eugene. 9-2 record. Could be 10-1 if not for the controversial call at Notre Dame. His defense held Oregon to 14 points total, including OT. Compare recruiting rankings to BCS Ranking. Getting it done.

Sumlin- A&M went 4-5 in the Big 12 in 2011. New coach and replacing a 1st Round QB. Close loses to 2 top 10 teams and a win at #1 Bama. 5-2 in SEC so far. I think this will be our primary competitor in the West for the next 5 years.

Snyder- Had Kansas St on the brink. See this program's history with him as coach versus all other coaches.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

Absolutely wrong. It's supposed to go to the coach who has done the best job this year.

It's funny to see so many people criticizing the coaching job done against aTm, and even LSU, yet now are saying that Saban deserves consideration for coach of the year. If the coaching was poor in those games...even of it was Nuss or Smart...it's ultimately all on Saban. You can't have it both ways. If the coaching was as bad against aTm as so many people seem to think, and with as much talent as we want to believe, then Saban isn't as deserving of COTY as some of those other coaches.

    airharper

  • leaving Saban off is a joke.

You lose Trent Richardson, Donta Hightower, Mark Barron, Courtney Upshaw, Dequan Menzie, Josh Chapman, etc.

and you're in position to go win the NC?

    come on Man!

Idk who you're talking to. But I was a VERY vocal supporter of Saban after both games. And its funny you talk about Saban's Coaching in our 5 point lose where our PLAYERS turned the ball over 3 times and say he shouldn't be considered one of the best Coaches if not THE best Coach. Even this year. Just bc we lose the 1 game doesn't mean anything. So you're saying all of Notre Dame's offensive struggles against bad teams don't count. And K State losing BADLY don't count. Chip Kelly's high flying Offense being shut down doesnt count. Texas A&M's 2 loses don't count. Jim Mora's bad loses don't count. Do you see the pattern? Come on man... Get your head out of your ass and stop criticising your Team, your Coach and other Bama fans for sticking up for the Coach who is guiding us through one of the single most dynamic dynasties EVER. Not to mention this could be Saban's 3 NC here and 4th overall. But... He sucked against Texas A&M so now he isn't a Top 15 Coach? Gimme a break man.

Again, I'm not calling out anyone specifically in this thread. But you guys all saw the same plethora of posts I saw, and they were from lots of different posters. All I'm doing is pointing out that it doesn't make sense to take both positions. I've never had an issue with either Nuss or the play calling. And I certainly believe Saban deserves to be in at least the top 5 for COTY.

    airharper

  • Sumlin took a team that finished, what, around the middle of the Big XII last year and in his first year in the SEC is probably going to win 10 regular season games, beat the #2 team in the country in their house, and is ranked in the to top 15. That's quite a season.

    He or Franklin IMO.
