McCarron and Yeldon fumbled handoff

  • Watching the play set up was beautiful. The OL blocked the play perfectly, there was a huge running lane between Fluker and Steen. If they didn't fumble that was a walk in TD. I was really impressed with the way the blocks were made.

  • That's what made me so mad when it happened. Would have put us up 21-10 and yes play was blocked to perfection. Luckily we still got the win. O-Line was amazing last night.

  • Yeldon would have hit his noggin on the goal post.....if he had gotten the rock. Until the screen td that was the biggest play of the game. 14 point swing because of that play. Made up for it though. RMFT

  • I agree completely. I said exactly the same thing when it happened. Yeldon could have walked into the endzone. Still, the fumble set up one of the most dramatic finishes in Bama football history....so it was, in that sense, an important part of the story.

  • Was Yeldon credited with the fumble? If so is that his first fumble of his career? Even tho I don't think it should be credited to him, since was a bad handoff. So hate it if it is his first and its not even his fault.

    I know the football logic says that it is the QBs responsibility to plant the handoff in the RBs gut. And it looked like AJ was a little hurried trying to get back and execute the 2nd fake to the sweep. So definitely AJ deserves some of the blame
    But, IMO I think TJ fouled up too. if you look at the replay from the rear view, it looked like TJ saw the huge hole that our OL had already created, and he began to veer to the right before getting the ball. AJ, never had a chance to complete the handoff b/c TJ was leaving their point of contact.

    Dual culpability IMO. Both guys were heading in opposite directions. Both got a little overanxious. I think they knew that play was money, and got impatient.

    agreed We will probably see that play again, hopefully with a better hand off.biggrin

    I could see that happening. Yeldon leaning away trying to hit the hole quicker.

    Even if yeldon leans it's the qb's responsiblity to put it squarely in the basket.

    I understand that, and know that is the old football saying, but if the RB literally veers so far away that the QB cannot reach the "basket" then he (the QB) has no way to put it there. If you notice, AJ's arm appeared to be fully extended. He was trying to get it there. But both of them had begun to veer away from their meeting point.

    It is the QB's responsibility to get the hand-off in the RB's breadbasket period. The QB is looking at the RB while the RB is looking at the line. As long as Yeldon didn't go to the wrong side of the line, which he didn't then it is AJ's fumble.
