Miami is the worst sports town in America

  • Among many many other reasons, the greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali, comes out from centerfield to do the ceremonial first pitch, and it's silent. Miami, you are truly pathetic!

    That was a really strange moment -- not just the crowd's silence but the entire manner in which it was handled.

    You clearly don't work for ESPN cause they are doing everything can to convince us that this isn't the same crappy Marlins franchise.

    On Alabama: CeCe Jefferson - "It was a bunch of beautiful women..." Reggie Ragland - "oh the females of course..."

  • Wait, are people just realizing this?

    FYI, football and basketball are pretty popular in SFL, especially the latter since the Heat are the team to beat. Nobody cares about baseball...at all. The few baseball fans are from other parts of the country and follow those teams. This surprises a lot of people, since there are so many Hispanics, including a lot of Puerto Ricans and Cubans...there's no good explanation for their apathy, but the sad truth is that even if they cared, they wouldn't be able to afford tickets anyway.

    I'll believe the Marlins have improved when I see it. I'm sure some time in the next few years we'll sneak into the playoffs and find a way to win the World Series against all odds again. That seems to be what they do. Incidentally, the 03 World Series is the ONLY time I remember people talking about baseball regularly.

  • Atlanta is a bad sports town as well. I will never for get being able to walk up and get tickets at the gate for the final game of the World Series in Atlanta. They couldn't even sell it out. Pathetic. The Falcons do well now but overall Atlanta has been pretty hit or miss regarding their sports' franchises.

    Are there sports being played in Birmingham?

    I hope moving the Barons to downtown works. Its location is amazing.

    Me being a Braves fan, I hate this and am ok with it at the same time. There's just enough support that they're not going anywhere and there's little enough interest that I can get VERY good tickets for my entire family(4) for what I would pay for one ticket to a Bama football game.

    I doubt this works. 2/3s of the fanbase were soccer moms/dads that were taking their kids out to the game. No one wants to take their kids to downtown Birmingham. The others were there for thirsty thursdays which went in the crapper once they started cheaping out on the cup sizes.

    I honestly had no idea Ali was still alive.

    Not everyone thinks highly of Ali as you.

    The area they would be taking them downtown is getting a lot nicer. It will be right next to Railroad Park. Have u been there before? You probably have but I'm just wondering.

    Ever been to Hialeah? I'm not talking about a ticket to one game. I'm talking about season tickets, which can be horrendously expensive in baseball (at $50/game, you're talking over $4000).

    not the worst, but the diehard atlanta fans i know think they rank much higher amongst sports cities than they actually do.

    let me remind you...

    you're entire city has 1 title. 1.
