Michigan Fans' Concessions and a look back at Us...

  • Most of the Michigan fans on TBB are pretty cool folks. There's the normal smack talk, but they're people with a good sense of humor, etc. But a lot of other Michigan fans I've heard from are already conceding the loss on Sept 1.

    Is that normal?

Go back a bit, and look at us in the early 2000's. I wasn't an internet board kind of guy back then. I didn't really listen to Finebaum until 2002 (when the sky was literally falling), and then only sparingly. So I honestly don't know: Did we really concede the Oklahoma losses before the season? Did we have built in excuses ready? I'm hoping not, but I suppose it's possible. The disturbing thing is that the Michigan folks are already talking about oversigning and their perception of our inferior academia at Alabama. They point to that and blame their loss to us on that. The problem is, the game is still nearly 3 months away.

  • I think most everyone is counting that game as a loss for Michigan....which is fine as long as our players don't buy into that line of thinking. For Michigan fans, coming off of an 11 win season, it's hard for them to acknowledge their team isn't "there" yet, so to make them feel better about a potential, even probably loss, to Bama, they have to make excuses. It's human nature, I suppose.

  • Maybe I've just always been naive but I have never conceded a loss.

I was at the Oklahoma game with the fake punt, the Arky game with the lightening storm where we are up 31-10 and lose 34-31 in 2 OT, the 5 OT, 4th & 19 UT game. I expected to win all 3 games.

Man, 2003 was a rough year...

I get it on some level, but it's not like they're limping in off a losing season with a bleak future. Their attitude should be similar to what ours was in 2009, coming off a season with a lot of wins and no end to good recruiting in sight. I remember thinking (foolishly) that we were going to beat OU both times we played them in the 2000's. That was during their best times and we were extremely thin across the board. Had talent, mind you, but we were not a full strength Alabama. I think Michigan will get better over the next couple of years, but I don't think they're terribly far from their maximum potential, either.

'03 was rough, but 2000 got my cherry.

  • Jesse Palmer said yesterday that Michigan was the only team in America that was already 0-1 for 2012.

We got screwed with a bad call in that 2003 arky OT game. In OT we intercepted in the endzone and got called for a celebration penalty. Terrible day due to the bad call and sitting in a down pour for an hour prior to the game.
